Colleen Hoover’s New York Times bestselling Slammed series has brought countless readers to their knees with a whirlwind of love, passion, and heartache. Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances, and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong. Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas, and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.

In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from his point of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series.

    Very disappointing 90% old material

Im very disappointed. Ive read both of the other books and this one is 90% copied and pasted as "memories." What a waste of $8.

    Repeat

I am so disappointed in this third book. It just repeats the first two but from Will' s POV. The book really doesn't add anything to the story. I loved the first two but this book was only added to sell one more book in the series.

I can say this is only the second time I regretted and feel cheated from purchasing a book. Buyer beware.

I LOVED the first 2 books of this trilogy. However, I felt this last book was basically a review of the first 2 books. The only difference was that it was told by Will. I was a little disapointed to read the whole book for 5 pages of "new info". ;(

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Atria Books and Netgalley.)
This is the third book in the ‘Slammed’ series, and kicks off with Will and Lake on their honeymoon.
This story is told from Will’s point of view, and basically involves Lake asking Will to tell her his version of their story. The story is mostly told in the form of flashbacks, some scenes of which weren’t in the original 2 books.

I’m torn over this book, I disliked the flashback-style in which it was written, but there were some really sweet moments too.

Let’s just start by saying that I haven’t read the first two books in this series, but I was interested in reading this one because other people said it was good, and I wanted to join in the buddy read!
Most of this book is told in flashbacks though, kinda like in TV programs where they do clips from previous shows and call it a new episode. For me, this kind of thing is a bit of a ‘filler’ episode, something that gets you from one show to the next without progressing much. I’m definitely reminded of the TV show ‘friends’, who seemed to have these sort of flashback shows quite a bit. The thing is with these sort of things, if the flashbacks are something I haven’t seen before, then they can be enjoyable, if they’re rehashing something I’ve already seen, then I feel a bit cheated.

That being said, I haven’t read the first 2 books, so nothing was rehashed as such for me, but still the constant jumping backward was slightly irritating! I did find some of the flashbacks sweet and enjoyable, but I have a feeling that if I had read the first 2 books, and had already been through these scenes once before, this would have gotten old really quick.

Anyway, I did think that Lake and Will made a cute couple, even though the whole ‘I accidentally snogged my teacher’ thing has been done before. There were some really sweet moments between the pair, and they seemed to genuinely care for one another, and I liked the romance between them. I did think the whole ‘yes we’ll wait a year before we have sex’ thing was a little ridiculous, and I have a feeling that if I had been reading through two whole books of this teasing and messing about I would have gotten a bit annoyed. And who gets married at 19 anyway?

The poetry aspect of the story was alright, but I can’t say that I really liked it. A couple of the poems were alright, but they weren’t anything amazing. Having read this book I might still read ‘Slammed’, but I get the impression that ‘Point of Retreat’ would really annoy me!

Overall; I did enjoy this book, but it did feel like a rehash of the first two books, and I haven’t even read the first two books! If you really love this series, then go for it, but otherwise I don’t think I’d bother, you’re basically paying for something that you have already read!
    6.5 out of 10.

    Disappointing

Hoover's other 2 books were fabulous but this one was just a repeat/summary of the other 2. Very disappointing!

Just flashbacks...no new story. Wishing for so much more!

Will and Lake's love story was beautifully told in Colleen Hoover's first two books. I was anticipating a continuation of the story and more of Hoover's heartwarming storytelling. How sad that it was a string of flashbacks told on a honeymoon to share the tale of their journey together. I felt cheated out of the next chapters of their life together and the money I spent to reread a story told better the first time around.

    Poor ending to great start

The first two books were really good. Especially book one. The third basically retold scenes from the others. Very little new plot. All the flashbacks could have been taken out and then had a novela for $2. That would have been better.

    Wow

This was the best POV I have read. Colleen told Will and Lake's story in such a way that it seemed like a new story not an old story retold. Good job Colleen. This is a trilogy I will enjoy re-reading.

    Lovedddd

This series is by far one of my favorites. I loved Lake and Wills story. The way I got to watch their love grow even when it was hard for them they made it. Will has to be the most selfless character that I have ever read about. I just wished it never would end!

The book is written in Will’s perspective as we revisit what happens in the first book, Slammed. Layken and Will have had a rough relationship filled with death, heartbreak, and wrong timing.

As they embark on their relationship of being newlyweds Layken asks Will to open up about the past. Will is reluctant at first to talk about the past because it holds so many painful memories but can never deny his Layken of what she wants. The book goes back and forth between being on their honeymoon and reliving the past.

Will retells the good and the bad of their relationship, the death of his parents, the death of Layken’s mom and all his intimiate and private thoughts he had. Will tells Layken about the loss of his parents and how it dramatically changed his life. This pushed Will to give up his football scholarship and start his teaching career at a young age. We see that Will needs his job to support himself and his little brother Caulder.

The book was perfect from start to finish Even though I am sad that this is the end of the Slammed series This Girl was the perfect ending. We see Will in a different light as he strolls down memory lane. Will suffered just as much as Layken did when their relationship came to a halt. At time Will seemed cruel and frustrating in the book Slammed but we realize that he did those things to protect Layken and to avoid complications.

Will is a selfless, compassionate, and understanding man that you can’t help but fall in love with his character. I loved the humor in the book and you really understand the dynamics of their relationship. Overall the book is beautifully written and brings you a happy ending.

Colleen Hoover is absolutely a phenomenal writer. This Girl is a heartwarming and emotional book that will have you laughing, crying, smiling, and falling in love with the characters.

Just as good as it's successor

    I loved this book.
It was really nice to read the thoughts and feelings of the opposite character. It's not very often that it is done this well, but Colleen nailed it!
    Thank you!!
