Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In this character-driven medieval romance that transcends category, Kurland (Stardust of Yesterday) spins a sometimes magical, sometimes uproariously funny, sometimes harsh and brutal tale of two people deeply wounded in body and soul who learn to love and trust each other. Knight Christopher, Dragon of Blackmour, honors a friend's dying wish and marries his pitiable sister. Christopher doesn't care who he marries; in fact, since losing his sight, he doesn't care about much of anything. His bride, Gillian of Warewick, is a frightened child-woman with no sense of self-worth, as her father's beaten it out of her. To the author's credit, no deus ex machina appears to heal these lovers; neither has she chosen to tell another version of Beauty and the Beast. Savor every word; this one's a keeper. (Aug.)

**One of Lynn Kurland's Best Masterpieces!!**

One of my all-time-A++ novels ever..Lynn Kurland's talent is brightly shown in this book. The storyline is simple..., a little bit sad but very beautiful. Forced by a simple knightly promise to his bestfriend, Christopher of Blackmour, a mighty warrior with a very sad secret and tormented past himself, unwillingly married to a common and unwanted girl, Gillian of Warwick. The story continued by telling how two wounded hearts helped each other to realize and learn the meaning of true love. Unlike other Romance novels, two main characters are not flawless. They also were not attracted to each other by external appearances but their true beauty within. And of course.. with dangerous sword fighting scenes and a bad, bad villians, the story is spiced up to a point where, once started, you don't even want to put it down!!... Lynn Kurland did an excellent job on this book to make it worth more than just a simple historical romance. This book is really 'All I ask' !! Highly Recommended..

A wonderful medieval romance. It was heartwarming to witness the transformation of both Hero and Heroine as they battled their own insecurities. Both were battle scarred; Gillian from her father's beatings and Christopher from a disability received from a battle. Both felt unworthy which transformed into actions that would fan the insecurity of the other. They each become whole as they grow to love one another. The emotion and love between Gillian and Christopher is touching and poignant.

It had just the right amount of battle between good and evil and self for me. Just when I thought it was going to go in a direction I did not want to witness, it was brought back to security. I love Kurland’s writing!

There are no sex scenes but plenty of LOVE scenes. The best kind of romance.

    I Love This Book!!!

This book has it all, romance, action, tragity, and more importantly a point for everyone. Kurland manages to teach a poignant lesson in trust and love after abuse and betreyal. I love all of Kurlands books, but this one especially. She shows just how much she understands people.

    I Also Recommend:

All I ask is for more Lynn Kurland

There are absolutely few words to describe just how beautiful a read this is. I have to say it's one of the best books I've ever read. The storyline pulsates with life, enigmatic and memorable characters that try to survive in the harsh and bitter reality in which they live. I have to say that this is one of the best Lynn Kurland books I have ever read. As in her other books, I also liked her secondary characters: Colin and Jason. We also meet Kendrick as a younger man from STARDUST OF YESTERDAY.
Blackmour's reputation is dark for a reason. He is hiding a secret--a debilitating injury-- that can spell the end for him as a powerful lord. And he is also hiding a heart trammeled by his dead first wife...
Blackmour's situation is fascinating... and there is no easy out for him. But love does conquer all, and that makes for a satisfying romance. One thing I particularly enjoyed was the much-needed break from the 'powerful and headstrong Scottish lassie who needs no help from any man and is the Chieftainess of her clan' stereotypical woman found painfully often in Scottish historicals. I have seen so many of those wholly unbelievable women that I'm sick of them, particularly since I'm a Scot myself, and this book was blessedly free of them. I found the characters much more believable than in many other stories, and through that connected with them very strongly.

    more from this reviewer

This IS a Good Romance Novel

This is a sentimental favorite in my book collection. I love historical romances and Lynn Kurland is one of the best. This particular story is heartbreaking and thoughtful. We are introduced to Gillian. A scrawny, tomboyish girl who is at the mercy of her brutish father. He beats her for a multitude of reasons...she's not a boy, she's not pretty, she's too timid, the sun is too bright...ect. Fortunately, Gillian had a devoted brother who made his friend promise that he would marry Gillian and save her from her father. Enter Christopher of Blackmore, our tragic hero. Dark, broody, untrusting, and handicapped. He relunctantly takes Gillian into his home and merely keeps her there. He never sees her or talks to her. A series of events occur which force these two individuals to learn to love and trust again. Lynn Kurland spends more time writing an actual story with relateable characters than she does on tangible smut. She keeps her books clean leaving the most intimate of moments to the imagination. It's refreshing. Too many times do you read a book that's comprised of very little plot and terribly written and awkward "love" scenes. She focuses more on the romance and love than she does on the sex. This book felt more like a modern Jane Austen than something you'd grab while waiting in line at the grocery store.

    Amazing

I found Lynn Kurland's books after reading the Star of Morning. Now, I wasn't too big into romance books, they get annoying after a while. So when I bought my first of her romances I was surprised and delighted. For a sap like me, finding a book with real emoitions and not just attraction was one of the best things. Her characters are real, they have their ups and downs and ultimately, their happy ending. This Is All I Ask is my favorite of all her books. It is very sweet and if you let it, it will make you cry as well as laugh.

    A True Heart-Warmer

At first, I had only picked up this book because of the dragon on the cover (I'm obsessed with medieval times) but after I read the back cover, I decided to give it a try. I'm really glad I did. This was the first book of Kurland's I've read, and I'm in love with it. Gillian's personality very much matches my own; she's meek and shy, she doesnt think she's pretty, but underneath the timid child is the heart of the dragoness she truely is. Chris and sweet little Gil are perfect for each other. For the longest time, I've been convinced that I'm never going to find that someone special. But every time I pick up this book, that little flame of hope i hold onto so dearly burns just a little bit brighter.

    The best book ever

This is the best romance novel I have ever read. I gave it to my mom to read and she went out and bought her own copy to keep. It's a story about Christopher and Gillian. The way she portrays them is sexy, funny, and romantic. I fell in love with Christopher and his rough exterior but his warm and loving heart.

    This Is All I Ask

This was a beautiful book. I was completely swept away by these wonderful characters. There were several times while I was reading this that I just had to put my hand over my heart and sigh.

    WOW...I'm still trembling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book was SOO good! I couldn't put it down (much to the protest of my family). It took me less than a day to finish. *Sigh* I have never read a book so tender and engrossing. The main guy was so sweet, not afraid to boldly show his love and affection, and the heroine was sweet and strong. I have rarely ever enjoyed a book as much!

This Is All I ask was a wonderful book

This was my first Lynn Kuland book. I was very impressed with her ability to just suck me into her novel. It was very romantic without being nasty. I will definately read many more of Lynn's books.

    24 Hour Winner

I adored this book. I started to read this book so that I could go to sleep, 'HA!' Could not put it down until I finished. I fell head over hills in LOVE with Christopher and all his kin. Gillian is a most suitable match for him. Had to run out and buy all the rest of Lynn Kurland's books and shared them with a few of my friends. Talked about this book to everybody I came in contact with for a week. GRAB THIS ONE IT'S A WINNER.
