Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Peter is a high school student who loves math and science and is sometimes pushed around by other kids. However, Peter does not care because he has a secret. He has a costume and a web shooter, and when he puts on his costume and paraphernalia he becomes Spider-Man. He climbs walls and shoots webs to capture bad guys. His exploits make the newspaper and while kids are crazy about Spider-Man they do not seem to like Peter. His secret identity and happy home life are all that Peter seems to need. The story is complimented by full-color illustration on each page but the text is limited to just a few words. A comic book hero, this introduction to Spider-Man should appeal to a new generation. This is a level one reader in the "World of Reading" series. The four levels are described on the back cover. The promotional blurb notes that these early readers are designed to offer emerging readers books that they will want to read featuring characters that excite them. While there is little excitement in this book, future offerings may contain more. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
