Overview

Lush, layered harmonies and breezy melodies distinguish this fourth effort from urban-pop divas Out of Eden (sisters Lisa Kimmey, Andrea Kimmey Baca, and Danielle Kimmey). The women have mellowed their urban edge considerably here; This Is Your Life offers a more mature R&B sound that relies heavily on a blend of intricate strings and lovely vocal harmonies, moving OOE closer in sound to their mainstream counterpart, Destiny's Child. While an unusual reliance on rapid-fire vocal delivery -- even on an easygoing track like "Meditate" -- at times obscures the songs' message, the overriding theme of a life transformed by God eventually takes shape. One of the nicest surprises is "Now I Sing," an invigorating number rooted in old-style gospel and given a 21st-century spin. Elsewhere, undertones of Latin strings on tracks like "Rolling Stone" and the effortless "I Am the One" are a nice backdrop for OOE's trademark sister-harmonies.

All Music Guide - Tim Smith
In a manner of speaking, This Is Your Life is a second coming-out party for these three sisters, Lisa Kimmey, Andrea Kimey Baca, and Danielle Kimmey, known as Out of Eden. Gone is the syrupy, pop-driven, adolescent sound of their previous recordings, replaced with a more mature, harder-edged, R&B-flavored sound that does not relinquish their pop base and works favorably with their unique vocal style. Along with the group's overall talent, this change in direction can also be attributed to the production process of the Clemons Brothers, Lee Jerkins, A.J. Wolfe, David Hackley, Todd Collins, Donnie Scantz, and Jamie Portee, whose combined credits include work on projects by such musical heavyweights as Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Aaliyah, and Jill Scott, among others. The music on this project captures the pulse of the current vibe in urban music. The groove-filled tracks definitely make their presence felt here. Songs such as the up-tempo "Different Now," the funk-influenced "Showpiece" and "Paradise," and the hip-hop-induced "Day Like Today" (the latter featuring a guest appearance by dc Talk member Toby McKeehan) can compete with anything on the mainstream urban music front. These young ladies show that they can also effectively handle a slow jam through their performance on the smooth-flowing "All You Need." This project also shows that Kimmey is one of Christian/gospel music's top tunesmiths.
