Overview

If Amy Grant is the queen of Christian pop, then Michael W. Smith is undeniably its king. He was one of the first Christian artists to cross over by blending a Christian message with a dance groove (heck, he's even worked with Madonna producer Patrick Leonard), and his 13th release, THIS IS YOUR TIME, is classic Smitty. The album boasts pure, clean pop, from easy ballads such as "Friend for a Lifetime" and "This Is Your Time" to frenetic up-tempo tracks such as "Hey You It's Me" and "I Still Have the Dream." Smith writes all of the music and coproduces, using his trusty Yamaha to program some interesting sonics into his slick pop. Case in point: the groove-laden, Latin/R&B-inflected "I'm Gone." The title track is the album's spiritual focal point. Inspired by and dedicated to Columbine victim Cassie Bernall and her "Yes, I believe" testimony, it's a powerful moment, thanks in part to the eloquent lyrics penned by Wes King. The album's closer, a gentle instrumental reprise of the song, is a brilliant reminder to "live every moment, leave nothing to chance." Smitty partners with some other familiar names here, including top-notch songwriters Cindy Morgan, Ginny Owens, Beth Nielsen Chapman, and Jars of Clay's Dan Haseltine, who give THIS IS YOUR TIME a lyric depth equal to its musical accomplishment. Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Michael W. Smith's 13th studio album This Is Your Time features more of the accessible, contemporary Christian rock that has won him a large and increasingly secular audience. Songs like "Hey You It's Me," "I Will Carry You," and "I Will Be Your Friend" blend guitar and synth flourishes with Smith's charismatic vocals, while hook-laden tracks like "Worth It All" and "Everybody Free" demonstrate why his audience continues to expand into the mainstream pop arena.

I recently got t meet Michael W. Smith @ one of his concerts in Sacromento. He is an awesome man of God and his music is great. He mixes all sorts of forms and styles while at the same time keeping it simple. i loved this cd because it had the Cassi bernall song on it. I give it four thumbs up!!!!

I first heard the title track just before the CD was released, at the funeral for golfer Payne Stewart. At the time I didn't listen to music at all. Now, since then, I have accumulated over 200 cd's. I have also started taking piano and guitar lessons, just because of that one song. It is definately one of his best songs, right up there with Friends and Great is the Lord. I can't wait for his next album, Worship Again, to be released.
