Overview

The two #1-selling novels that have captivated millions are now available together in one volume.

This Present Darkness takes place in the typical small town of Ashton where nothing much ever seems to happen. Until... a skeptical reporter and a prayerful pastor begin to compare notes. They suddenly find themselves fighting a hideous New Age plot to subjugate the townspeople, and eventually the entire human race.

The battle against evil continues in Piercing the Darkness, where a young loner fleeing for her life while trying to recall her dark past takes refuge in the tiny farming community of Bacon's Corner. There she finds herself caught up in the middle of bizarre events—from an attempted murder to a ruthless lawsuit against a struggling Christian school.

Across a vast panorama of heart-stopping action, these stories are a penetrating portrayal of our world, a reflection of its spiritual wanderings, and a vivid reminder of the redemptive power of the Cross.

One of America's hottest novelists offers two bestsellers in a perfect gift edition boxed set. In This Present Darkness, a newspaper editor and a pastor find themselves fighting a plot to subjugate the human race; in Piercing the Darkness, a woman is the victim of relentless pursuit in a colossal spiritual struggle.

I remember reading this book for the first time many years ago as a teenager. Reading it again twenty years later as an adult, I find I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I did when I read it for the first time at age twelve. What I believed as a teenager and what I experienced as an adult, gave me two different perspectives about this book. Both times I’ve enjoyed it for various reasons: the action, suspense, battle scenes, three dimensional characters, detailed writing, an imaginative plot, and the underlying message of the power of prayer which I firmly believe in. Reading it for the second time, now as an open-minded Christian adult with a different way of thinking than when I was a teenager with preconceived ideas about the world, I find the author’s views and opinions a little narrow-minded and prejudiced. As a reader I’m all for detailed world-building so as to really be able to engross myself in a book, but in This Present Darkness I often found the lengthy descriptions tedious and mind-numbing. I read this book in fits and starts and had to constantly put it down to read something else before picking it up again to continue where I had left off. Overall the idea behind the story is an inspirational and feel-good one and I really enjoyed the fictional part of the story. However, a lot of readers (including myself) might find the author’s viewpoint outdated, stifling and biased, but as far as fiction and fantasy goes I genuinely think this was a worthwhile read. I don’t think I’ll be reading Piercing the Darkness, but I’d definitely like to read more of the author’s other works.

GOOD READ NO MATTER WHAT RELIGION YOU ARE

Even if you are not a Christian, this book is a must read. It is well written and is definitely a page turner. Angels and demons in aerial combat. The only question I have is 'Why is this not a movie yet?'

    Amazing insight into spiritual warfare!

No one else writes like this author. If for some reason you have not heard of these books, and you enjoy reading, they are a must for your personal library. I echo the sentiments of the other reviews listed.

    Battle Armour

Once you read this book you will discover another level in Christian warfare. It is a one sitting book that makes time irrelevant. No matter how long it takes to finish this you will not stop until you have.

    Amazing!!!

If your looking for a spiritual series that is mixed in with today's world, this is the one. This Present Darkness is suspenciful and exciting, yet is soothing in its own way. And Piercing the Darkness is a complete reality book with a well thought out plan. Frank Peretti gets you thinking out of the box and what is happening around you!

    Thought provoking, challenges political correctness.

Great book! Challenges the way I looked at 'enlightened thinking'. Gives insight into how people can be led astray by alternative philosophy and can then be led into evil. This book helped me to understand why some people I've known do the things they do. I think that many people do good for the sake of doing good. Unfortunatly I've learned that some others do evil for the sake of doing evil. This book illustrates this sad reality.

    Intence!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Being how im only sixteen, you would think that I wouldnt enjoy reading a book like this. It is not like every other book you read. It's details are enough to make you shake from the images it causes you to think of or at other times it is enough to make you yell when something goes right. So I recommend this book to Everyone. Its one of those books you just WON'T put down. It will have you talking about it to everyone you know

    Required reading for Spiritual Warriors

I read both of these books. They gave me a greater understanding of spiritual warfare, the power of prayer as our weapon, and the effect that it has on the spirit world. It also helped me to understand the individual personas of angels and demonic forces. After reading, I felt better equipped with knowledge and had a greater understanding of the power God has given us over the enemy.
