Overview

Defiantly beautiful, Caroline Wetherby stepped ashore in a land so wild and fierce, she trembled.  She had come seeking refuge with the last of her family, but her sister was dead.  Waiting to greet her were pious Pilgrims, warring Indians, howling wolves, a boisterous household of men and boys...and him, her rugged, unwelcoming brother-in-law, Matt Mathieson.  Caroline wanted to hate Matt as she hated all men.

After her father's death, she'd been eager to escape England.  But as daughter of a gambler and a gypsy, her flamboyant ways and healing skills tempted disaster in the sanctimonious Connecticut Colony.  And putting herself in the hands of a big, handsome stranger tempted something far more dangerous--emotions she couldn't resist, kisses she couldn't forget, and a future that could bring ruin...or a journey to heaven on earth in his arms.

"Ms. Robards has the marvelous talent to zero in on the heart of erotic fantasy. She seems to know instinctively our most secret thoughts and then dreams up the perfect scenario to give them free rein... The result is pure magic."

    This Side of Heaven

This Side of Heaven is another one of Karen Robards historical romances that I absolutely loved. The story has secrets, passion, love, humor, everything that keeps a readers attention. The leader character leaves England to after the death of her father, she goes to the American colonies to live with her sister and sister's husband. The death of her sister is unheard of until she makes it to the colonies. From then on she becomes part of the family that her dead sister became a part of, there she and Matt start a world wind romance that forces you not to want to put down the book.

    Overall, good read.

I thought this book had everything going for it, and not much lacking. There was a handsome hero, beautiful heroine, lots of adventure, and lots of funny scenes. I liked that the hero and heroine didn't fight throughout the whole book like most romance novels. My favorite scenes were the beginning with the bull, and the love triangle between Matt, Caroline, and Daniel. If you want a book that will not leave you bored, and will provide plenty of romance and plot, this is your book. The only thing I have to complain about is the ending. It was very rushed and leaved the reader wanting more closure. I mean, the rest of the book was very thorough and told the story well, but the end just wizzed by and had the reader scratching their head. It went way too fast and seemed like the author was rushing at the end to meet her deadline. But, that aside, the book as a whole was a good one.

    Like

I like Karen Robards books that are more modern. The only historical ones I've liked have been the ones about the Banning sisters. Those kept your interest and also had just the right amount of romance. The first book of hers I read was Night Magic and the second was Hunter's Moon. They both remain two of my favorites. This one I did not like at all and had to force myself to complete it. I don't like to do that.

    VERY HEARTWARMING!!!

Set in 1684, Connecticut Colony. I really enjoyed the closeness of the Mathieson brothers. A littel bit slow paced in the middle of the story while we're waiting to see Caroline & Matt get their romance started. I like the sense of humor among the brothers especially with Matt's two sons. At the end I agree with the family's decision about getting a fresh start somewhere else. Would love to see love stories for Matt's brothers.

    Good Historical Romance

Good Historical Romance. I thought the character development was done well and the story was appealing. Many of Karen Robard's Historical Romance are well done and entertaining.

    Disappointing

I have read a few of Karen Robards books and was surprised at how much this missed her mark. Half of the book is devoted to how miserable her leading lady is and half of the book is telling how miserable her leading man is. I have tried to read it twice and cannot make it through! Her other books such as Paradise County were great.
