Because resources of poetry written by female poets during the Harlem Renaissance are not as abundant as resources by male poets, this book is an excellent resource as a collection of poetry written from the female perspective during the era. Johnson covers the traditional subjects: nature, Africa, injustice, love, and racial pride. However, it is her twist on the ¿new Negro¿ that differs from the Harlem Renaissance¿s concept of such. In Bottled Johnson creates a clownish image in comparison to ap prideful African image. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
