Thor & Loki: In the Land of Giants: A Norse Myth

Overview

Out of the great halls of Asgard, home of the Norse Gods…came one of the greatest Norse legends. Thor, powerful god of thunder, and his brother Loki, the trickster, were eager to resolve an argument: Does strength always win, or do brains always beat brawn? Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathleen Karr
The classic "Classic Comics" of the 1950s get an upgrade and new life in Graphic Universe's series of myth retellings. Library binding, glossy paper, bold coloring, and most especially the use of veteran comic writers and artists propel these efforts to the forefront of the graphic novel genre for school use. A double-spread map of Scandinavia, glossary and pronunciation guide, bibliography and websites, and index—as well as a sample "before color" pen and ink sketch—add to the interest level of the material. And then there's the story. Limke and Randall collaborate well with their tongue-in-cheek take on the boisterous blowhard of a god, Thor, and his trickster brother Loki. It is easy for the two of them to intimidate mere peasants, but can they hold their own against the denizens of the Land of Giants? Kids will be amused by Thor's regenerating pet goats, and the cave shelter that turns into a giant's lost glove. They'll even feel sorry for Thor and his seemingly useless, blustering attempts at beating the giants' challenge. Bottom line, young readers will come away with a fair concept of the meaning of this Norse myth—and the character traits of the old Norse gods.
