"I am a lover of fantasy fiction so I purchased & read

"I am a lover of fantasy fiction so I purchased & read this book with much expectation & eagerness. I'm pleased to say that Ralph Laitres did not disappoint at all. The main character Thorgil is a mercenary who holds no allegiances to any one group or person, he travels about and protects the highest bidder. This is actually a welcome break for heroes (or villains depending on how one views him) who are stereotypical and faithful to a particular throne or person & dies defending it. One twist in this narrative is that thirteen years earlier he killed someone (the sister of the White Queen of Nidafjoll) and she intends to find Thorgil Bloodaxe and make him pay for taking her sister's life. Of course that's not the only plot twist but you'll have to read the novel to find out more & I promise you won't be disappointed! This is the author's first novel and he did a fantastic job. What stood out to me the most was the characterization and in novels where the characters are such "larger than life" individuals, it's easy to under/over characterize them. Laitres' heroine and all other characters, especially the White Queen are very believable. I give it 5 stars, 2 thumbs up & anything else I can give to convince you to try this book, even if this is a departure from your normal reading. I can hardly wait to read any & all sequels which the author publishes. Great job! I had high expectations and they were met. I'm a harsh critic & with all of the disappointing, LOTR copycats & unoriginal fantasy novels out there, Laitres is refreshing to the genre.
