This is an excellent book that is both comprehensive yet user friendly. It covers an entire range of topics concerning the feet. The author is extremely knowledgeable and communicates the information in a straight forward and easy manner. It was useful for me and also my boyfriend who is a diabetic. Highly recommended!

    Helped fix my 'Aching Feet'

Do you know what a 'Nueroma' is? I didn't, but I definitely knew that I had shooting pain on the bottom of my foot. I was procrastinating going to see the doctor (as I always do) and decided to pick this book up while I continued putting off making an appointment. When I got the book, I didn't know exactly where to start - hey it's a foot book and I had foot pain ; ) After flipping through the book, I caught the pciture of the nueroma, so I started reading that chapter. I really liked the way the author layed out each chapter, with the sections, 'Overview', 'What you See and Feel', 'How it's Diagnosed', 'What Else Could it Be?', 'Waht You Can Do About it', and 'Bottom Line'. I quickly read the 'What you See and Feel' section, confirming that I was in the right place. I went on to read the whole chapter. In the 'What You Can Do About It' section I learned that I needed to get off my feet when possible as a first step (pun intended), plus ice it and use anti-inflammatory meds like advil. The author convinced me that I should see a podiatrist soon, just in case the injury was worse than it seemed. By reading this book before visiting the doctor, I felt like I knew what was going on, and was able to have a better conversation with the doctor, as well as understand what they were talking about. I even had an idea of the what the worst case scenario would be, so I was not shocked when the doctor started talking about surgery. Fortunately my situation wasn't that bad. The pain should be gone in a week or so and I should back to normal activity soon. I will also be looking into orthotics (hopefully these will also help with some other issues like back pain). It's the paranoid side of me talking, but I am really glad I picked up this book, since I might have waited months to see the doctor and who knows how much worse this might have gotten. Nueroma, by the way, is an inflamed nerve and can occur anywhere along the nerve. The 'Flat Feet' section has a great write-up on how to buy new shoes. Okay, so this is not a fashion guide to this Fall's hottest footwear. It gives some rock solid advice on what to look for when choosing new shoes that will work best any person's type of foot and related foot problems. This is a great book, I am happy that it sits on my bookshelf . -Tanya
