From the Publisher

"Hip, hip hooray! Tacky's back, along with his proper penguin pals . . . Tacky fans will flip for this title." School Library Journal
Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Tacky the penguin unexpectedly leads his squad to victory in a cheerleading contest; PW praised the "pithy" text and "winsome" pictures. Ages 4-8. (Oct.)
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2-Hip, hip hooray! Tacky's back, along with his proper penguin pals, Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, and Perfect. They are in school now, and, as usual, Tacky has his own way of doing things. When the friends enter the great Penguin Cheering Contest, the main concern is whether Tacky can get the cheer right. He handles the situation in his own unique style and once again proves that although he's ``an odd bird,'' he's certainly ``a nice bird to have around.'' Although there is a touch of predictability to the story for those already familiar with previous stories, this one is a smooth, fun read. Munsinger's full-color illustrations are charming and subtle. The penguins wear sweaters and caps; Tacky wears his over a Hawaiian shirt, and his cap is askew. One minor reservation-two of the judges of the contest are a walrus and a polar bear. But if readers can believe in cheerleading penguins, then they'll believe that these judges are special guests imported from the Arctic. Tacky's fans will flip for this title.- Donna L. Scanlon, Lancaster County Library, PA

My 4 year old and I love the Tacky books. However, the NookColor formatting/presentation is a big disappointment. While the display of the original Tacky book falls in line with most children's books, this and other Lester books are displayed upright with photo copy like images of the book art and text, followed by a second set of text. It makes it somewhat hard to read/follow. I wish I would have known this before purchasing. I would have chosen the paper copy over the digital version.

I love the Tacky the Penguin books, but they don't read as well on the NOOKcolor. You see a small version of the page surrounded by enlarged text from the page. So if you can read the text from the page, you get distracted by the enlarged text surrounding the page, and vice versa. The Read To Me books work much better on the NOOKcolor. I'll stick to those books next time I buy children's books on here. The story and art in this Tacky book are as sweet and funny as the others no matter which format you use.

Our kids loved the original Tacky book and we read it nearly every night while they were growing up. We just found this new story, and now our grandson is loving Tacky and his "companions". it's a silly story, perfect for our 3 year old.

This book series never fails to make me laugh. My children and my students love the characters and the story. It has a wonderful lesson reminding people to celebrate the differences we all have. "Tacky was a strange bird, but a nice bird to have around." Absolutely wonderful!
