Three Days Grace's self-titled debut showcases the simplicity of their music, which is both the band's biggest strength and biggest weakness. The album's taut arrangements and grinding but melodic sound are quintessential alt-metal, suggesting a much poppier, less cerebral Helmet or among Three Days Grace's contemporaries, Chevelle, and while the production is mostly simple and crunchy, it occasionally delves into Linkin Park-like atmospheres. At its best, the band's focus and adherence to alt-metal's formulas -- coupled with tight songwriting and some unexpectedly pretty choruses -- results in a strong tracks that are more memorable than the work of many of their peers....

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Three Days Grace's self-titled debut showcases the simplicity of their music, which is both the band's biggest strength and biggest weakness. The album's taut arrangements and grinding but melodic sound are quintessential alt-metal, suggesting a much poppier, less cerebral Helmet or among Three Days Grace's contemporaries, Chevelle, and while the production is mostly simple and crunchy, it occasionally delves into Linkin Park-like atmospheres. At its best, the band's focus and adherence to alt-metal's formulas -- coupled with tight songwriting and some unexpectedly pretty choruses -- results in a strong tracks that are more memorable than the work of many of their peers. "I Hate Everything About You" was Three Days Grace's big single and remains the band's best song, gaining most of its power from its directness and bluntness in examining a dysfunctional relationship. Though there's nothing else quite as strong on the rest of the album, "Born Like This," "Just Like You," and "Scared" are also good examples of the band's surprisingly hooky songwriting. However, when the songwriting isn't quite up to par, Three Days Grace's simplicity becomes more generic than focused. The cookie-cutter angst of song titles like "Burn," "Drown," and "Now or Never" and lyrics like "Home"'s "By the time you come home/I'm already stoned/I can hardly wait to leave this place" may tap into the feelings of the band's audience, but they're not especially distinctive. The album's second half falters a bit when compared to the punch of Three Days Grace's first few songs, although the power ballads "Take Me Under" and "Wake Up" show that the band is equally good at somewhat quieter songs as well as loud ones. Although this debut is a little uneven, it's also promising. Three Days Grace are definitely one of the most accessible alt-metal bands of the 2000s; they just need to add some more distinctiveness to their sound.

    A reviewer

When I first heard I Hate Everything About You, I fell in love not only with this song, but with rock itself. The pure pain and agony in their vocals mixed with unforgettable lyrics (plus awesome music) will suck you in. Three Days Grace is awesome. Their songs never get old. In this album I like the songs I Hate Everything About You, Drown, and Wake Up. I never thought sadness and anger could turn into something beautiful until I heard them... Go 3DG!!!

    These guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three Days Grace, in my opinion, has created an album where every song sounds totally flawless and maintains the air that epitomizes rock music. The talent of the band’s members can be recognized through the superb playing of the bass and drums and of course the very distinctive vocals. It’s one of those cds where upon hearing it you feel really glad that you bought it and have no regrets. They totally rock!!!

Three Days Grace, self titled album

This is a great cd. Anyone who loves rock will LOVE this cd. It has a great new sound. It is hard to find bands as good as Three Days Grace. There are 2 hits on this cd, but they are certainly not the only good songs. I would recomend this cd to anyone that is older than 13. That is because I do not personally think that anyone under that age is mature enough to understand the emotion of this cd. So anyone over the age of 13, I recomend this cd to you. If you like rock, you will LOVE this band.

    AMAZING

This is a mind blowing ablum. Its much more than the first single suggested, and that was the weakest song they had to offer. Each word reaches deep into the soul and really touchs the inner truth we all feel.

TDG is REALLY good! Hopefully another cd of theirs will come out soon!

TDG is an amazing cd, and I really hope another will come out soon. I liked every song except "Scared," and I especially liked "Let You Down," "Wake Up," "Home," "Taking Me Under," and "Wake Up." Every song is outstanding and amazingly original. I first heard "I Hate Everything About You," and really liked it, so I immediately bought the cd, but I soon found that that song was not nearly as good as the rest of the cd. I hope to see them in concert soon, but until then, I strongly reccomend buying this cd, its amazing!!!!

Best cd in a long time

This is one of the best cds i've ever heard. Its emotion can be compared to Trapt or Linkin Park. Every song is awesome. You won't be disappointed!
