Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
Children will really enjoy the story at the heart of this book, which is part of the "Hello Math Reader" series, and they will have fun learning some math concepts as well. The story is a parody of the tale about three little pigs and their nemesis, that hungry wolf. In this story, the pigs meet magic animals that give them seven magic shapes to help them find their fortune. These shapes form a Tangram, an ancient Chinese puzzle that features seven pieces cut from a square. Each pig does something different with the shapes. The first two pigs are defeated by the "Big Brad Wolf," twin brother to the wolf in the original story. But the third pig builds a house with her magic shapes, which protects her from the wolf. Notes at the end of the book include a cut-out Tangram and suggestions for creating other shapes with this new tool.
