Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Three classic children's tales, "Jack and the Beanstalk," "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," and "Tom Thumb," are retold here with new, colorful illustrations. The three classic children's tales have been delighting children for generations and their new presentation helps to reintroduce the stories to new generations. The familiar stories have certain elements that feel new in this retelling, but the basic premise of the original stories remain. While the stories are well-known by most everyone, the stories themselves lack the morals and political correctness that most children are taught in today's society. The characters in the three stories feel little remorse about stealing, destroying something that is not perfect, or persecuting those who are different or more popular than others. Nevertheless, the stories, for the most part, are interesting and fun to read. The full-color illustrations capture the action of the stories and add an interesting dimension to the tales. 2004, Kids Can Press Ltd, Ages 3 to 7.
