Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 2-Helmer retells three traditional fairy tales, but no source notes are provided. The tellings range from adequate to lackluster, and all of these stories have received superior treatment in other collections and as single picture-book versions. One puzzling, if not disturbing, alteration that Helmer makes in "Little Red Riding Hood" is having the huntsman kill the wolf with his rifle. The story also culminates in an unnecessarily lengthy and didactic don't-talk-to-strangers paragraph. Pajouhesh's gouache illustrations tend to be cute and fussy at times.-Grace Oliff, Ann Blanche Smith School, Hillsdale, NJ Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
