Meet the Author

Author of 16 Historical Romances and one contemp, my first book, China Rose, was published in 1984. Since then my historical romances have consistently appear on the USA Today list. I have been honored to be the recipient of multiple awards from Romantic Times, including 2 Lifetime Achievement awards, Storyteller of the Year, Medieval of the Year, Swashbuckler of the Year, as well as having been awarded one of a very few five star reviews handed out by Kathe Robin for The Blood of Roses. The Iron Rose was also named as one of the seven best Fiction books of the year by Publishers Weekly.I have been on a bit of a hiatus for the past few years...five, to be precise...but Smashwords has given me the incentive I needed to get the muse stirring again. It has been truly wonderful to be able to reissue my early books in digital format. Some, like China Rose, Bound by the Heart, and The Wind and the Sea, have not been in print for twenty five years. It was The Wind and the Sea, in fact, that inspired Romantic Times to create the category "Swashbuckler of the Year" and it won the very first award.I have joined an illustrious group of (to date) 63 authors who are also reviving their out of print books. Breath-taking action and adventure

This was my first Marsha Canham story and even though I have now read perhaps six or seven other stories, including the "The Last Arrow" and "In the Shadow of Midnight", I am thrilled that this was my introduction to her as a writer. I love the way Marsha Canham has creatively deconstructed the Robin Hood myth and reformed it as an amalgam of personalities and events that occurred over the course of three generations of one family. "Through a Dark Mist" is the first in the trilogy and does a fantastic job of laying down a complex framework of history and plot around which all three stories intertwine. All of primary and secondary characters are described to incredible depths and are essential elements in this and the next two stories. "Through a Dark Mist" is as magical a story as the original Robin Hood and readers will not be disappointed.

This story begins with the main male and female characters meeting in a dark forest just as the classic beginning of the Robin Hood and Lady Marian story. However, the plot immediately thickens as we learn more about how and why the hero and heroine have wound up at that moment in place and time. The story then explodes in a flurry of breath-taking action, including fight scenes swirling in and around scary and desolate castles portrayed as vividly through the author's descriptive imagery as if it were a Hollywood movie. The loves scenes were also wonderful intimate and magical moments. I couldn't put it down and look forward to rereading it again in the future.

Free book??? Better than most Nook Books I have paid for

Downloaded this free book...opened it for a look...rarely closed it through the 900 pages.I almost did not download because of the Robin Hood Association, which would have been a big mistake.Well written ,historical accuracy,romance-but no explicit over the top bang bang on every page, heroine is no wimpy women, hero is not a macho man, but villians are brutes. Good story line and no rushed....fall off at the end.Have already purchased/downloaded 2 sequels which are not free, but reasonably priced under $5.Then I will proceed to read every book Canham has written and eagerly await future books.Glad I discovered this author!

    more from this reviewer

    ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

Through a Dark Mist is the BEST HISTORICAL FICTION I'VE EVER READ. This novel is steeped in details of life in the Middle Ages and filled with characters you will feel passionately about. I LOVED this book and have already downloaded the next book in the series, 'In the Shadow of Midnight.'

    BRILLIANT AND BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN

Another brilliant book by Marsha Canham. Her well written stories had captivated me AGAIN. As the story progressed, you just can't help but read through it faster because it was that good.

One of the best books EVER!

I would easily rank this book as one of my top 3 most favorite EVER and I am a self confessed bibliophile! I enjoy books of every imaginable topic and genre and have hundreds on my NOOK to judge by, having said that, I can say without a doubt this is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading!

I stumbled across it while searching for cheaper books to read and was sort of put off by the cover looking slightly cheap somehow, but it had excellent ratings, so I gave it a try. I was hooked from the first pages and read nearly 800 of them the first night. I literally could not wait to get home from work to read it.

The story was beautifully told with a strong knowledge of the time period the book is supposed to represent. I admit that I used my nook dictionary frequently and google a few times to look things up, so that I could better imagine them, but if you aren't the sort to hang on every word to build a mental image, then you most likely won't care one way or another what things like "linsey-wooley" look like.

There are some love scenes that are scorching but so tastefully done that I did not ever feel like I was reading erotica with a poor plot. The book is very plot driven and unfolds at a steady pace that is easy to lose yourself in for hours. The characters are well developed and easy to relate to.

All in all, I am so glad I found this book! I would love to see it made into a movie and could easily see it being a classic. Well done Marsha Canham! Keep em coming! I intend to read all of them!

    A very good read

Characters were well developed, and it was more believable when the two lead characters actually did fall in love. Lots of suspense and surprises a long the way. I would recommend this book. Even though 1000 some pages, I finished it in 2 days!

    A Must Read Series!

I have just read all 3 books in this series. I was put off by the Robin Hood theme. But i must say this series was AMAZING!!! An absolute must read for anyone! The author was superb in her writing and it kept me on the edge of my seat during the entire series. I am sad to see the people in these stories go. This series made me cry, laugh, get angry, and rejoice in their stories and lives. I look forward to reading more from this author. The first book is over 1000 pages, the second over 900 pages, n the third over 1000 pages. Well worth the money and a happy addition to any readers collection.

    Not the best writing

Im not sure I am going to finish this book. The story line is ok, but the writing leaves a bit to be desired. The sex scenes are a bit rediculous. The author really likes the word moist. "A moist shudder"? Really?
