Overview

Lily Wright is a doctoral student in psychology struggling to uncover the cause of her own serious depression. As the anxiety generated by her increasingly disturbing dreams and flashbacks convinces her she has repressed the memory of some traumatic event, she finds herself clinging to the one unexpected bright spot in her life - the intoxicating and debonair Dr. Gabriel Martin.
Losing herself in their whirlwind romance, Lily is almost able to escape the depths of the psychological darkness that once nearly engulfed her. But when their budding relationship is threatened by an unknown foe, Gabriel's mysterious behavior leads Lily to suspect that he is not who - or what - he appears to be; in fact, he may hold the answers to her own forgotten past.

I am not a avid reader, but this book grabbed me from the beginning and kept me all the way thru. It has something for everyone: romance, sci-fi, fantasy, drama, action. Well written and easy to read. If you're an adult "Twilight" fan, this is a must read!

Jennifer Webster is impressive. From the beginning she has created characters - especially Lily - so real she could be any girl we all know. Her skill in making Lily so true to life is not evidenced by great descriptions and many words, but by the relating of ordinary incidents in our lives - thoughts and missteps we normally keep to ourselves. We could be led to believe the book is a biography purloined from Lily's very secret diary. The same could be said of Lily's Dr. Gabriel Martin, very much a man with a dark and mysterious existance. Jennifer Webster is deceiving. With wonderful skill, she creates a girl-next-door longing to be loved; and a lonely man who believes he is forever unworthy of being loved. But if you are looking for a lovely romance story with an expected "happily ever after" ending, you will be disappointed. Instead, you will -like Lily - be caught up in a world so fantastic it must be impossible. But Jennifer's ability to turn fantasy into "truth" will have you rapt with attention and fearing what will happen next. This may be Jennifer's debut novel, but she is already a master storyteller, creating characters and stories so real, even the fantasy is believable; weaving ordinary and fantastic, longing and fear, romance and horror into a story of great love and forgiveness. We hope it will not be her last.

A friend got me reading this book during a very busy time and I could not put it down! Had there been just a little boredom it would have been put on the shelf, but I sat up reading into the night because I needed to find out what was in store for my dear Lilly!!!!!! I can't wait for Jennifer's follow-up! I think Lilly and Gabriel will be here for a good while and I'm excited about it!

I'm an adult Twilight fan, and had been looking for something a little darker than Twilight, but not so adult as to be smutty. This novel hit the right note for me. It is exciting, romantic, mysterious, funny, dramatic - everything I want in a book. I felt a real connection with Lily and I was captivated by Gabriel. Plus, I found Lily's friends so entertaining that I wanted to hang out with them myself! The ending of the book definitely leaves the story open for a sequel, as others here have suggested. If there is a sequel, I will DEFINITELY be buying it!
