Through the World of the Dinosaurs

Overview

Our journey begins in North America, hundreds of millions of years ago. We travel through time, stopping now and then to take in the view – as illustrated on each page of this book – of the dinosaurs of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. Special windows cut in the pages allow the reader to “climb through” one prehistoric time zone and on to the next.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Die-cut pages give the feeling of peering through a historic portal in The Incredible Journey Through the World of the Dinosaurs by Nicholas Harris, illus. by Inklink Firenze. Each double-page spread highlights a different time period, beginning with "320 million years ago." Detailed illustrations are labeled to match the plants and animals discussed in the informative text. A glossary, index and suggestions for further reading complete the volume. ( Nov.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Children's Literature
This beautifully illustrated large volume takes the reader on a spectacular journey through time and ages past. Each chapter delves into one of the many ages of the earth, beginning with "Before the Dinosaurs" when Earth was the supercontinent of Pangea. The reader's trip through time does not go from place to place, but is a look through a window of time at the same place after many millions of years pass. The reader can observe how the landscape changes as trees and plant and animal life evolves. Beautifully detailed color illustrations of plant and animal life are revealing. Sidebars describe details such as the first birds, dinosaur skulls, what happened to the dinosaurs and what a dinosaur really is. Included in the endnotes are a complete glossary and bibliography. This is a great introduction to dinosaurs for any intermediate reader and an excellent classroom or family resource. 2001, Peter Bedrick Books, $18.95. Ages 8 up. Reviewer: Sue Reichard
