Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
A writer for Chicago-area newspapers who has authored an insightful book on the Cubs, The Million to One Team, Castle celebrates the virtues that often get overshadowed by the perceived greed and big-business aspects of today's game. He looks at a smattering of current stars and everyday players who still play the game the way it was meant to be played and comes up with his throwback all-star list. Castle's heroes include future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, whom Castle calls the smartest man in baseball. He also profiles Craig Biggio ("dirtiest helmet"), Doug Glanville ("Scholar-Athlete"), Fernando Vina ("pesky leadoff man"), Jim Thome, Ellis Burks, and others. Most baseball fans will enjoy this readable and insightful book. Recommended for libraries looking to fill out their baseball shelf lineup.-Paul Kaplan, Lake Villa Dist. Lib., IL Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
