Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Back in the hood but movin' on up, Tasha and Trae Macklin have reformed somewhat but are still in urban grit mode. In Clark's latest street lit, her fourth novel in the Thug series, the couple's moved to L.A. although Trae briefly returns to the East Coast for some revenge killing after his cousin Shaheem's murdered. Three years later, Tasha has three children and it's all good except Trace opens up a flashy nightspot, Club New York. To do this, he makes a connection with Charles Li, a Chinese mobster, and his dangerous daughter, Charli. Then Sabeerah, a devious young witness to Trae's New Jersey crime, moves to L.A. and tries to blackmail Trae. In another plot line Det. Rick Bryant, the couple's neighbor, gets involved with Kyra, Tasha's old friend, whose hubby, Marvin, is using drugs. Clark, who started her writing career while incarcerated, depicts Tasha's travails and Kyra's problems with a brutally honest squint, but it's hard to care about extra thuggy Trae. (Aug.)

Wahida Clark

Wahida Clark was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. She decided to write fiction while incarcerated at a women's federal prison camp in Lexington, Kentucky. Crowned the "Queen of Thug Love Fiction" by Nikki Turner, the "Queen of Hip Hop Fiction" herself, Wahida's style of writing is the template for urban literature. When you read her novels, they are so real you are convinced of one of three things: you know the characters, you want to know the characters, or you are one of the characters.

    GIVING UP!!!!!!

I'm giving up. :( this book was totally not what i expected. I know alot of ppl are pretty much talking about how tasha and trae ended up but i could really give a damn about that part, my thing is where is the progress!

okay so trae and tasha take the kids and move to l.a. he's out the game, they're starting a new, legit, honest life. If you ask me their interputation of a new, legit, honest life was much worse than the "thug" life. when trae got out the game, i realize he had to clean his dirty money but why why why why would he put his dirty money right back into a dirty business. A NIGHT CLUB?!?!? what real person would do that when crime associates itself with night clubs. you've got bar fights, the fire marshalls, undercover cops, drug addicts, and drug dealers who associate themselves in a night club. so regardless YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THE COPS' ATTENTION RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR STEP WHETHER OR NOT IF ITS POINTED DIRECTLY TO YOU. so that was just stupid on Trae's part. Trae goes back to jersey or new york, who knows, who cares, i dont give a damn. He takes revenge on the person who killed his cousin. Since he's such a "thugged out, smart gangsta" i guess he thought no one could touch him, yet he walked away from the murder with a witness. first of all thats unrealistic. How does a man who's smart enough to get out of the "game",without snitching to do it, how does he be dumb enough to stand basically in broad daylight, murder someone, AND get it caught on camera, not to mention the witness is alive. NOW BACK TO THE CLUB THING, LETS NOT MENTION THAT HE'S ACTUALLY WORKING WITH A MOBSTER TO LAUNDER HIS MONEY :| WTH. LETS NOT MENTION THAT THE WITNESS TO THE SHOOTING IS CONVENIENTLY THE MOBSTERS DAUGHTER, A LAWYER WHO JUST WANTS TRAE.
THIS STORYLINE IS REDICULOUS ALL THE PLAYS THAT SHE DID IN THE FIRST 4 BOOKS ARE A CONTRADICTION TO THIS BOOK. DID THE CALIFORNIAN SUN MAKE TRAE BECOME A DOFUS?
Here's something i couldnt stand Tasha became submissive. And another thing I HATE THAT SHE BASICALLY CHANGED HER NAME FOR TRAE LIKE WTH HER WHOLE LIFE SHE'S BEEN ROSALYNN OR WHAT EVER THE HELL HER NAME IS THEN HE COMES ALONG AND DECIDES HER MIDDLE NAME IS MORE SUITABLE FOR HER. WTH WHO MADE HIM BOSS? ITS LIKE EVEN WAHIDA FORGOT THAT TASHAS NAME IS NOT EVEN TASHA.
so anyways tasha becomes submissive to trae, jumping when he says jump and flinching when he jumps back, its ridiculous, she brings another woman into their life to "spice up" their already spicy sex life. What strong woman does that? oh okay. then jumping to the end, trae beats her down quite frankly i think that was an ass whipping waiting to happen. First of all THEIR WHOLE RELATIONSHIP IS BASED ON SEX! SEX AND DRAMA THATS ALL THEY KNOW. THINK ABOUT IT, IN EVERYTHUG NEEDS A LADY, THEY ALWAYS HAD SEX, THEIR RELATIONSHIP STARTED WITH SEX AND IT LOOKS LIKE ITS ENDING CUS OF SEX. the reason i say it was an ass whipping waiting to happen is because they never communicated much in the books, they were always having sex, he was in a coma or away in jail or away on drug business, really? they had no geniuine relationship. it is all based on sex Maybe thats why she stays pregnant.
to me, the book was predictable, its the same ol same ol. Hopefully Angel and Kaylin's relationship doesnt go sour. whats gonna happen next wahida? will Kaylin turn gay and give angel aids cus she has an affair with her mom's new boyfriend?

Huge Wahida Fan Disappointed..Read For Your Own Enjoyment Not My Comment..

I have waited for this book for along time and when I finally had a chance to purchase and read it then toss it in the collection. I was highly upset it was 100% north of what I was expecting and for that i hope she can write one more in the thug series and correct this mistake. Do not get me wrong read it for your enjoyment but as a fan who has read all of her books more than 20 times each I was so pumped and let down. I kept picturing her killing trae or kaylin and that was 280 degrees of what happened. I will try to read it again but I do know I still will be disappointed...Hey my personal opinion...

Terrible. I hope this book is the nightmare that begins the next...

I was a huge fan of the "Thug Series" presented by Wahida Clark. I eagerly awaited the release of this book and was HUGELY disappointed. Every character that she built in the previous 3 books lost their dimension. The plot was stereotypical and simple minded... to say the least. The back cover of the book gave more information than the actual book. The love that Tasha and Trae built was tainted by unnecessary affairs and drama that was beneath the depth of their characters. I am a general fan of cliff hangers, but this book ended weird. Its like the author was running out of time and just put together an end within 3 pages. A complete JOKE Seriously!!!! At the end of the day I believe that the love of Tasha and Trae should have endured and not given way to the everyday stereotypical lust that looms married couples. SO UNHAPPY. If she does write a new book I hope it begins with this one being a nightmare.

    I don't know

I've read a few of Wahida Clark's books, and liked them. I read this after "Thugs and the women that love them" so I have some background, but I will say this. This book is so over the top and unbelievable I didn't know what to think. Some of the mistakes these "thugs" make actually made me laugh, even I'm smarter than that! I generally like the authors style, but I had to ask myself, what is the point if everyone is gonna do the same things, in or out of the game? Can we get some progress? All this shows me is that thugs really can be dumb in or out of the game!

    Highly Recommended

I hate the way everyone is trying to down grade this book because I actually think it is a wonderful book. Even though Trea did some things that was against his marriage he was still trying to fix things and make it back the way it should have been. So I highly recommended this book and for the people who thinks it all backwards I think they so think about the way Ms. Clark wrote this books because it was based upon the couples.
