Overview

A lot can change in three months: Wars can be decided, nations can be forged . . . or entire species can be brought to the brink of annihilation. The Morningstar virus has swept the face of the planet, infecting billions. Its hosts rampage; its victims don’t die, but are reborn as cannibalistic shamblers.

Scattered across the world, embattled groups have persevered. For some, survival is the pinnacle of achievement. Others hoard goods and weapons. And still others leverage power over the remnants of humanity with a mysterious cure. Francis Sherman and Anna Demilio want only a vaccine, but to find it they must cross a ravaged landscape of the infected and the lawless living.

The bulk of the storm has passed, leaving echoing thunder and softly drifting ashes. But for the survivors, the peril remains, and the search for a cure is just beginning. . . .

Returning to the terrifying vision of his “awesome zombie novel” (David Moody) Plague of the Dead, Z. A. Recht “will once again make you turn your lights on” (J.L. Bourne) with this chilling apocalyptic thriller.

“AN ACTION-PACKED ZOMBIE EXTRAVAGANZA.” — Ryan C. Thomas, on Plague of the Dead

I fell in love with this series. I think it is really well written and I got invested in the story and characters. I am so glad that the 3rd book is coming out, I was really worried and saddened that with Mr.Recht passing we would not get a conclusion to the series. I heard he had a good portion of the 3rd book written and outlined and I hope the co-author continues with the same style. Series is totally worth the read if you like or love zombies.

Thunder and Ashes find the survivors of the Morningstar virus trying to make it to Omaha where there is a government lab that may have the cure. But across the vast wasteland are zombies and other survivors who don't want to play nice. This novel is filled with zombies, apocalyptic scenarios and a great cast of good and bad characters. Easy to read, but just a cut above your average zombie story.

I've read it three times now and it is just as good as the first time. I just can't wait until the trilogy is competed.

however still a decent book. It's a tragedy that such a great author died in young age because his style of narration is very plastic and suggestive - it's almost like watching a movie. Major concept regarding virus and the effect of living and dead makes from this series ultimate mix between slow and fast "deaders". You can "feel" that Recht got some military background or at least he got great adviser in someone who was a soldier. Since third book will be available shortly (pre order at the moment) it's worth to start reading whole saga since it will have the ending!
