Thursday's Daughters: The Story of Women Working in America written by Janet Harris, I thought was a very well written book. Women had a rough time finding their respected spot in the working world. Thursday's Daughters really should all the steps and processed to getting their spot in the working world. This book has a big meaning to me because if these certain women did not work as hard to get the right jobs and pay, we wouldn't be like we are now. We wouldn't be able to work in the more difficult jobs and get recognition for it. Behind us is a long tradition of women who opened the professions to us women, who founded colleges and universities to make higher education coeducational, which brought in trade, commerce, and industry. Also, the concept of the worker as full human being with needs and rights, who fought for nearly a century to gain full citizenship for women-civil rights, property right and the long awaited right to the ballot. I admire all these women who have helped us in many ways. Especially by all the things, above, they have done for us. It shows that when women want something, we will do anything to get it. Perhaps the most important resource that working women have in recognizing women's specific needs and offering working solutions for a country during a major period of transition is women themselves. Thursday's Daughters is just an awesome book that shows ever part of the journey. It shows the rough times, the joyous times and most of all the accomplishments and happiness that comes out of it all. Janet Harris did an excellent job researching and writing this book. I really enjoyed reading and learning about this subject.
