Description: The 11 chapters in this book cover all the information necessary for the proper evaluation of thyroid fine needle aspirations (FNAs). Several clear algorithms quickly and concisely help in the diagnostic process. This book is small and concise, yet thorough, and could easily be carried in a bag for quick reference.
Purpose: The authors aim to bring the most up-to-date information to a field that is quickly changing and growing. This book is significant as it incorporates the Bethesda system for reporting thyroid cytopathology, which many pathologists are now using. It provides a clear and straightforward way to follow these new guidelines.
Audience: Practicing cytopathologists who will be evaluating thyroid FNAs are the intended audience. The authors are physicians who are quite knowledgeable in this area and the book could be used as a primary reference. It is also an excellent source of information for residents and students interested in the field.
Features: The book includes an overview of the procedure, adequacy requirements, and chapters devoted to the various categories of diagnostic lesions. The book is complete, although the information on molecular tests is somewhat sparse. The many color images are of very high quality, accompanied by easy to read text and diagnostic algorithms.
