Tickle Time!
is the twelfth in Boynton’s astoundingly successful Boynton on Board series. Based on the wildly popular song from Boynton’s wildly popular Rhinoceros Tap CD, Tickle Time! is pure irrepressible Boynton, lively in tempo, nimble in rhyme, and filled with irresistible fuzzy cats that cavort from page to page. Plus a few birds, who aren’t the cavorting type. Here’s a book to turn to again and again, because it’s guaranteed to elicit giggles:

If you’re feeling blue and you don’t know what to do there is nothing like a TICKLE TIME to make you feel like new.

Whether you tickle high or tickle low, tickle fast or tickle slow, it’s the gitchy-gitchy-goo that makes everything worthwhile.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Boynton is known for her silly rhyme and even sillier looking creatures. This board book is no exception. A group of crazy cats seem to be preparing for tickle time "ready set go!" Tickle time can chase away the blues. Our sad little cat is approached by three others whose paws are just itching to tickle and soon the one who was blue has joined in with the fun. There is no limitation on tickle time—it can be day or night and it can be fast or slow. Tickle Time! also introduces some concepts such as high and low, big and small, day and night. So everyone join in with millions of others and find time to tickle to chase away the blues.
Kirkus Reviews
A favorite baby-and-toddler activity receives an upbeat celebration that will get those fingers going. Watch out! The gang of frazzled felines that populate this outing are truly the cat's meow. Based on Boynton's song of the same title, the text is reproduced in a colored, patterned font that amps the energy right up. A forlorn little kitty, paws clasped in front of his body, appears anxious (though slightly intrigued) when a trio of toms encourages him to join in the fun. "Gitchy-gitchy / Goo Gotta / Ready, Set, Go!" It doesn't take long before the cautious cat jumps in on this chorus line with dramatic leaps and fluttering fingers. A little birdie acts as a square-dance caller, enunciating each beat ("Goo bop. / Gitchy-goo bop"). The shaggy, large-nosed felines are tremendously expressive in their synchronized movements and maintain a rollicking pace. "We can tickle high. / We can tickle low. / We can tickle QUICKQUICKQUICK / as fast as we can go!" (Here, the page is filled with iterations of "gitchy gitchy gitchy" in different colors.) At the end, the gang sprawls on the floor, exhausted, after a truly monumental tickle-fest. Sure to prompt little fingers into joyful action. (Board book. 1-3)

With its pitter-patter text…the book practically begs to be sung or at least rapped aloud.

Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton

Sandra Boynton has been a bestselling author for 25 years. She's written the New York Times bestseller Chocolate: The Consuming Passion, the national (and New York Times) bestselling musical for the whole family, Philadelphia Chickens, the phenomenally successful Boynton on Board series (led by Barnyard Dance!), and the one-of-a-kind Grunt, the sublime collection of Pigoroian chant. All told, her kids books have over 30 million copies in print, a number that will already be out-of-date when you read this. She lives with her family in western Connecticut.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

    Very cute

Tickle Time by Sandra Boynton is a very cute book. It is about a sad cat who gets cheered up by his cat friends. They tickle each other until they are all tickled out. My 3 year old and I like this book. It is pretty silly and a lot of fun. When the story ends, everyone is happy again. A good book about a creative way to take care of your friends. It is a bit repetitive, but good. The read-to-me option is really nice.

I was very disappointed in this book. Not only did I find it annoying, but my 4-year-old grandson didn't like it at all. This is the first time I've regretted a purchase on the nook of a children's book.
