All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Fiona Apple demonstrates considerable talent on her debut album, Tidal, but it is unformed, unfocused talent. Her voice is surprisingly rich and supple for a teenager, and her jazzy, sophisticated piano playing also belies her age. Given the right material, such talents could have flourished, but she has concentrated on her own compositions, which are nowhere near as impressive as her musicianship. Most of Tidal is comprised of confessional singer/songwriter material, and while they strive to say something deep and important, much of the lyrics settle for clich?s. Great debut!

Thank god for Fiona. Without the few artists like her, the music world would be overrun with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera look-a-likes. Fiona's voice is beautiful and soulful, and the songs match her voice perfectly.

The young Girl whit a Womans voice

Fiona Apple is one of the biggest talent's for years. Whit her dark voice and sad lyrics Fiona shows her true feelings and she also sings about her life, ( Criminal ) about the rape and( Sullen Girl ). This happends to be one of the cd's of the 90.

THE MOST STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART ALBUM I HAVE HEARD IN YEARS

THE FIRST TIME THAT I HEARD ''SHADOW BOXER'', I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THE ONLY GOOD SONG. THEN I HEARD ''SLEEP TO DREAM'', ''CRIMANAL'', AND ''SULLEN GIRL'' AND I KNEW THAT I HAD FOUND A ALBUM THAT WAS TRUE TO ALL OF ITS EXPECTATION. ''SULLEN GIRL'' WAS BEAUTIFUL IN THE SENSE THAT IT TOOK HEART BREAK AND SHOWED HOW THE LOVE AND AFFECTION WAS ALL STILL THERE.

Gets better and better with every listen

I bought this a couple years ago on the strength of ''Criminal''... since then I've grown to love every one of the tracks, each one has its own character and passion. If you like piano, played in the low and middle registers, and even banged out at times, take pleasure in this one like I do.
