Tidings of Joy: An Eversound Holiday Celebration

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Carol Wright
Some Christmas albums shy away from traditional carols to focus on winter's ambience. Not TIDINGS OF JOY. The entire album glows with all the joyous and sacred sounds associated with Christmas music: bells, harps, toy pianos, sparkling dulcimers, children's choir, medieval strings, and midnight-sky orchestrations. Though TIDINGS OF JOY is mostly instrumental, there are several touching vocals: the lovely and angelic vocalise by Daya Rawat on "Angels We Have Heard on High," the devotion of Kim O'Leary's singing on "O Come All Ye...

This album showcases the talents of the EverSound musicians to offer fresh interpretations of Christmas favorites, plus a few originals as well. The entire album glows with all the joyous and sacred sounds associated with Christmas music: bells, harps, toy pianos, sparkling dulcimers, children's choir, medieval strings, and midnight-sky orchestrations. Though TIDINGS OF JOY is mostly instrumental, there are several touching vocals: the lovely and angelic vocalise by Daya Rawat on "Angels We Have Heard on High," the devotion of Kim O'Leary's singing on "O Come All Ye Faithful," the innocence of Lucia Iman's "Little Drummer Boy," and the hopeful mantra of Geoff Bridgford's original composition "Happy Christmas." You'll find plenty of synthesizer magic here too. Jonn Serrie's "The Holly and the Ivy" springs to life with the merry sounds of a music box and sleigh bells, while Michael Whalen's "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" soars over a catchy rhythm pattern. A childlike simplicity is expressed by acoustic instruments on "Christmas Lullaby" by cellist Ron Clearfield, and by the delicate chime harp, guitar, and strings on John Mills's "Away in a Manger." TIDINGS OF JOY is a holiday album that really lives up to its name.
All Music Guide - John Bush
EverSound released this collection of quiet, warm Christmas standards featuring an assortment of musicians -- keyboardist/guitarist John Adorney, cellist Ron Clearfield, keyboard player Michael Whalen, multi-instrumentalists Geoff Bridgford and Manuel Iman, bassist Eduardo del Signore -- on mostly solo or small-group recordings. Among the highlights are Adorney's "Angels We Have Heard on High," Jonn Serrie's "The Holly and the Ivy," Kim O'Leary's "O Come All Ye Faithful," and Clearfield's "Christmas Lullaby."
