Overview

The hunt for a serial killer begins…

Detective Madison Knight concluded the case of a strangled woman an isolated incident. But when another woman’s body is found in a park killed with the same brand of neckties, she realizes they’re dealing with something more serious.

Despite mounting pressure from the sergeant and the chief to close the case even if it means putting an innocent man behind bars, and a partner who is more interested in saving his marriage than stopping a potential serial killer, Madison may have to go it alone if the murderer is going to be stopped.

POLICE PROCEDURALS RESPECTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT.TM

“Usually it’s hard for me to read cop books without picking them apart but once I started this one I couldn’t put it down. TIES THAT BIND was more realistic than anything I’ve ever read and for the entire book I felt like it was me. The way Carolyn wrote Madison describes me and the way I work and even my personal life to a t. I have never felt more connected to a character. Thank you for creating something so real.”
Deputy Rebecca Hendrix, LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department
Poteau, Oklahoma

“I related to this story immediately. It is truly believable in its writing as it is vivid. I felt a kinship with the main character and that continued throughout the story. Well written and I am looking forward to more in the series. Highly recommended.”
Richard Goodship, Police Officer and Forensic Investigator (Ret.)
Ontario, Canada

“Coming from an author that is not in Law Enforcement, I was extremely impressed by the amount of research she must have done. From the needed sugar rush to put her emotions in order to view a murder scene to the tenuous and stressful relationships with the Brass Bosses, this book was dead on.”
Stacy Eaton, Police Investigator and Certified Crime Scene Investigator
Pennsylvania, United States

"I thrive on rich characters and TIES THAT BIND did a superb job of capturing the law enforcement partner relationship."
Kevin Johnson, Sergeant (Ret.)
Minneapolis, MN

Ties that Bind is a great detective novel. If you are looking for a good crime mystery series with intriguing and likable characters that you can get attached to, and a storyline that keeps you guessing and turning pages, this is it.

The author has developed a plot with surprising twists that create a rich texture to keep the reader invested. The interpersonal dynamics between the protagonist and others is interesting, funny, and engaging. Arnold is skilled in accurately writing crime scene investigations down to the seemingly smallest details; it's these details, however, that become the backbone of the story, revealing the unexpected.

Keeps you wanting to read. However if you want to be left hanging and have to read the next book have at it. Of course you have to pay find out what's going to happen.

I like a book that draws you in quickly and has engaging characters. This book did both, and also added some interesting twists and turns.

Only two things bugged me: every other page says "matched eyes" - although I can figure out what the author meant, it doesn't really make sense. And NOTTA is spelled NADA! However, very good story and characters.

Easy read, but keeps you interested and guessing throughout.

Carolyn Arnold has developed a great plot, using realistic inner-wrkings of a police department, including all te ego trips by rank personnel who seemingly interfer with those who are trying to do a difficult job in a dangerous situation. Those even remotely knowledgable in police investigative work will see this from their workplace and immediately say "I know that person." If there is one shortcoming with this novel, it's that at times it seems to get a bit wordsy, areas where I skipped over initially, then had to go back to re-read because it was all part of the continuing plot development. Very enjoyable read ... it's packed with a great plot which takes a unique turn at the "11th hour." I assure you, anyone who enjoys a good mystery will enjoy this book. I did.

This was a nail biter police mystery from start to finish. I love reading books that make me think and try to solve the mystery before the author tells us. This book will put your detective skills to the test while also entertaining you. The pages will fly by and when you get to the end you will be saying --MORE -MORE -MORE!! Great work Ms. Arnold and looking forward to more Madison Knight Novels.

Madison is a good detective as she wants to make sure they have the right man. She really puts herself into the work to solve the crimes. The story has lots of twists and an interesting story line. I want to know how she keeps a box of chocolate bars in the car in the summer heat. She always has one handy and they never melt.

Interesting story but ending was pretty predictable.

A fun book. The plot was interestingly handled with a nice little twist at the end. I will definitely read more books by this author.  It was a pleasure to read a book with fairly few typos. A huge "Thank You!" to the author and proofreader for that! Some peculiar scenarios - such as a senior, experienced detective being sneered at by her boss and her junior partner for believing that one of the only two personal photographs in a victim's home is relevant. That just seemed silly and rather ridiculous to me.  The lead character is constantly looking into people's eyes ... I imagine that detectives actually do a little more investigating and a little less guessing answers by the looks in suspects' and witnesses' eyes. Plus she has some bee in her bonnet, that's brought up time after time, about clichés. I don't know if that was an effort to give her some character or some other reason, but it came across as disjointed to me.  Some aspects of the story were never fully wrapped up or explained, but it remained an enjoyable and satisfying read.

Good book, but won't pay for the next book.

I almost didn't finish this book, and now that I have, I wonder why I bothered. The pace is slow and I figured out the murderer fairly early in the story. The two detectives are irritating, immature, and not at all likable. My advice - don't waste your time even though it's free. JB

Low score due to childish bickering between the detectives. Very negative feel to the story.

This book is very disjointed and hard to follow. I gave it a chance but quit after 40 pages and should have stopped earlier.

I WANTED to love this book and it started out so good, but it became SO CLICHE...ripped from EVERY SOAP OPERA OUT THERE and a few BAD LIFETIME MOVIES.  While I liked the characters I found the female lead to be a little FULL OF HERSELF while supposedly being insecure.  I have a hard time with female authors making the female characters to be so disjointed.  I am not writing this author off and have  gotten the second book hoping that the characters and story are better.  I just was disappointed that this was so DONE THAT BEFORE, a hundred times and I mean EXACTLY like that.  I can't say more because I don't watn to give away any of the story line.  I hate reading reviews where they tell you the "mystery" of the mystery.

Parts were interesting but I frequently skipped over whole paragraphs that did nothing to advance the story. Felt like they were just filler the author added to make the book longer.

This was a decent read but the main characters just didn't mesh for me.

Skipped ahead and lust could not find anything to capture my interest.

I really enjoyed this page turner even though maddy is quite pushy and selfcentered. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed it. I really got close to the characters and i like that in a good detective novel. Read it.

Not a well written book...the characters seemed to be "faking it"...and how many times can you put in a cliché, just so the character can remind you that she hates clichés? The interaction between the 2 main characters is not believable at all....
