Meet the Author

Heather Huffman writes romantic suspense with strong female leads who refuse to lose hope. Though her stories never shy from looking into the world’s darker corners, they don't dwell there. Heather shares with her resilient heroines a passion to make a real difference and so donates a portion of her book royalties to organizations that fight against human trafficking.

Heather was born and spent her childhood in Florida but now calls the beautiful state of Missouri home. Her greatest joy, when not writing, is to hit the road with her three boys for adventures unknown.

Heather is the author of Throwaway, Jailbird and Suddenly a Spy. You can find out more about her writing and her charitable work on www.heatherhuffman.net.

    LOVE THIS BOOK

Ok, so I previously said that Jailbird was my favorite book from Heather Huffman so far, but I gotta change it to Ties That Bind. I really didn't want to put it down. My favorite type of books are romantic suspense, and this book delivered.
Can't wait for more books from Heather Huffman, I just hope that they will be free also

    Could have been much better

If you like romance novels, you might like this book. The development of the love between Kate and Gavin is the main focus. However, even this story line seemed to wander, as the author added too many details of Kate's day to day life that really weren't needed. The inclusion of the Justin character seemed to promise some added excitement to the story. Unfortunately, the build-up to the clash between Gavin and Justin was scanty, and the confrontation between Kate and Justin was a mere page or two, followed by the rest of the novel describing her evolving relationship with Gavin. As a romance story it was ok. As an exciting adventure I would have given it just 1 star. I wondered to myself many times why I was still reading the book.

    Excellent book-highly recommended

I cannot believe that all four of Heather Huffman's books are free. I thought every one of them was excellent. This is a very nice love story.

    Yawn

Girl meets guy, girl really likes guy, girl tries to push guy away and fight her feelings for him for no apparent reason. So overdone and boring.

The storyline is all over the place! Daddy issues, dream job, random stalker, boyfriend dealing with his own mothers cancer, finding she owns half a vineyard ( but there is no emotion behind that ) two women met at dream job that become her instant BFF's that she cant live without, yet you as the reader dont know when that happened...so many lines in this story, that the reader is left a bit confused and annoyed.

Some books stay with you. You invest in characters that live in your memory. This is not one of those books.

The star is for the dog...

    Couldn't put it down!!

It's 3:45 am and I just finished this book, in one sitting! Got this one for free and I have three more already downloaded. The author takes you into Kate's world so effortlessly and all the characters develop into real people very quickly. Can hardly wait until I take my son to school tomorrow so I can start the next one!!! Robin Cook (not the author - I love his books, too)

Not her best, but still pretty good

This book was not my favorite of Heather Huffman's; like other reviews said, the heroine is a little annoying. However, it is still exciting enough to keep you turning the pages, and it's free. So give it a try--her other free books "Throwaway" and "Jailbird" are the best, followed in my opinion by "Suddenly a Spy" (a little more action than this one).

    This was very enjoyable!

I normally read murder mysteries, but like to mix it up, and Ties That Bind was a great choice. I enjoyed the storyline and didn't want to put it down, and having babysitting duty this past week for my grandchildren...only put it down for them..ending up finishing it at 3am.It was well worth it...

"Ties That Bind" came to me as a loaner from a Nook Fr

"Ties That Bind" came to me as a loaner from a Nook Friend. This is the first Heather Huffman I have read.

The story itself was interesting. Kate an only child of a single mother takes a job in San Francisco to find out who her father is. Kate develops close friendships with co-workers at the magazine where she works as a party planner. The magazine owner is her father, but he doesn't know.

Kate meets Gavin and they have instant chemistry. Gavin didn't seem all that believable to me. Maybe I have never met a man like that so it doesn't seem possible to me.

I must admit that I had a hard time with the Jason angle. He went from someone she met with from a local newspaper, to attacking and kidnapping her? It was just too random and didn't make any sense to the story. The author should have spent more time developing the storyline behind Jason's craziness.

This is a cute story and it was fun to read.

I've been finding a lot of really good Adult Contemporaries late

I've been finding a lot of really good Adult Contemporaries lately and this book is included in the bunch. I liked the idea of a girl going in search of an unknown father. What I liked more? The love story. Yep, I'm a sucker for a good love story. I'm sure you've figured that out by now.

The story begins with Kate's first day on her new job. The man she believes to be her father is her boss. As the story develops, she and her boss develop a friendship. In fact, Kate helps to plan his wedding to a girl who is only a few years older than she is. Initially, Kate had some problems with that, but she and Tara (the fiancee) became fast friends. Her relationship with her father/boss comes to light during the most inopportune time, but Kate handles the situation with maturity and grace. I'll get back to thoughts on this situation in a minute.

Let's talk about Gavin. Gavin is absolutely delicious. He's confident, sweet, talented, loyal, and completely devoted to making Kate fall in love with him. See, Kate has some issues with their age difference. In my opinion, the difference wasn't much to be concerned about. Regardless, Kate does fall in love with Gavin. I'm not going to reveal much more about the story, but I will say that the parts with Gavin, were my favorite parts in the story. I love their relationship. Of course, there is some drama, but I was happy to see there was no cheating or lying. Their issues stemmed from Kate's personal issues about letting people into her life. In the end, the love they share is full of mutual love and respect. It was refreshing.

My biggest issue with the book was that I really had a tough time with the relationship Kate had with her father. Once the truth came out, I felt sick about how her father handled the situation. Again, I don't want to reveal too much, but it really bugged me. He does somewhat redeem himself later on, but it left a bad taste for me for some reason.

Overall, I really liked the book. It's not a mushy love story. It's a love story that has a very real feel to it. You really connect with how Kate is feeling. You will understand her need to know her father and her reluctance to trust her feelings for Gavin. I'd definitely recommend this book.
