Overview

Now in paperback, here is the definitive, definitely inspiring work for homeowners and designers alike. Author Jill Herbers surveys the use of tile in such conventional settings as kitchens and baths, then ventures into less traditional locations like living rooms, foyers, staircases, and home offices. Outdoors, tiles are both beautiful and functional in courtyards, fountains, gardens, and on exterior walls.

Breathtaking full-color photographs showcase this beautiful and versatile craft. Herbers explores the use of tiles through history and as art, culture, and style, examining such topics as terra-cotta, the secret life of glazes, showroom survival, and tiling on a budget. An exhaustive, completely revised source guide provides contact information for artists, showrooms, designers, associations, and "tile experiences," to name just a few.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Herbers provides an overview of the use of tile in decorating. Beginning with its use throughout the worlda section that is not as definitive as Tony Herbert and Kathryn Huggins's The Decorative Tile in Architecture and Interiors (Phaidon, 1995)she describes the types of tile available today: handmade, imported, machine-made, and mosaic. There is also an extensive section of photographs illustrating tile use in interior and garden design. Concluding with an extensive list of nationwide sources for tile as well as places where the best examples of its use can be seen, this will be a good source for medium to large public libraries.
