Once they were in the privacy of her room, Chris took her in his arms and kissed her. "I hate to leave you for a whole week." The soccer team was playing a tournament in Pennsylvania over the break.

"Go have a good time. But not too good a time."

He stayed for another hour before he kissed her goodbye.

Alone, she felt the gloom return. It would be another couple of hours before her parents would arrive. Stop acting like a baby, she told herself. This isn't like before. You're seventeen now, not five.

She was sitting up in her bed clicking through the TV channels with the remote control when someone rapped on her door. "Come in," she called.

The door slowly opened, and the boy from the rec room stood there. "Hi," he said with a sunny grin.

"Do I know you?" she asked.

"Mark Gianni." He held out his hand.

She took it cautiously. His grip was warm, his palm rough. He was tall and had curling dark brown hair and intense deep brown eyes. But Kelli had been right. He was thin, almost gaunt. "And you're here because...?" She allowed the sentence to trail.

"Because I want you to know that you're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. And I thought I should introduce myself. I mean, we should get to know each other. Since you're the girl I intend to marry."

This book is to cry for!

Our young protagonist, April Lancaster, finds herself admitted to the hospital after suffering from blackouts. These blackouts are not unlike the ones that were caused from the disease she had once acquired, yet gotten rid of when she was 5 years old. Upon being admitted, she is quickly noticed by Mark Gianni, who has been in and out of hospitals since birth due to his unstable cystic fibrosis. Mark is instantly attracted to April and quickly learns all about her, thanks to the nurses who love and have known Mark for years. On their first meeting, Mark informs April that he intends to marry her. April, being the kind hearted person that she is, sweetly declines due to the fact that she has a boyfriend, Chris. As her illness progresses, her relationship with Chris starts deteriorate, just when she needs him the most. That's when Mark comes into the picture.

This tear-jerking romance novel is an absolute "must read". I literally have make-up riddled tear stains on the pages of this book. If you are looking for a book that reaches a whole new level of emotion, this may be exactly what you are looking for.

    Great book

A real tear jerker! This would give anyone a new out look on their relationship and the love of their life. Makes me truly thankful and feel blessed for the love of my life. I absolutrly loved when Mark told April about what his grandmother said about soulmates..."when my grandmother was alive, she used to tell me that everytime God creates a soul in heaven, He creates another to be its special mate. And that once we're born, we begin our search for our soul mate the one person who's the perfect fit for our mind and body. The lucky ones find each other."

    A Real Cryer

This book is the most sad book I have ever read, but it really showed me respect for sick/ill people. In one day, Lurlene moved to the top of my author list. She makes me feel like I am with the characters and I can feel their pain and their loss. I also feel their ray of hope.
