Library Journal
The second in the "Faith on the Home Front" series (Home Fires Burning, Tyndale, 1996) takes the residents of Eden, Mississippi, through 1945 and the end of World War II. Libba Coltrain and her fianc, Link Winsom, are reunited but face the possibility that Link's battle wounds will leave him permanently paralyzed. Link's best friend, Stork Simpson, is reunited with his wife and baby son but must contend with his mother's constant references to the child's being the "result of sin." Other characters also struggle with returning loved ones, the loss of loved ones, and the resulting challenges to their faith. Stokes brings this period in American history to life well, adding some humor and charm. A solid addition to any library.
