Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Snow Wildsmith
To cover slightly more than twenty years of comics work might seem premature for a retrospective of an artist's works, but Tim Sale's dedication to his art and his motivation to improve himself makes this work an engaging read for fans of American comics. Starting from his early love of art as a child, Starkings interviews Sale about his current life and his past, always taking a respective tone, even when the topic is failure. Readers are treated to a glimpse of the black-and-white movement in comics, which burgeoned in the early 1980s, and are given details about Sale's well-known partnership with writer Jeph Loeb when the two collaborated on a series of Batman stories. The reason for this volume's expansion is obvious as Sale is the artist behind the prop comics for the popular television show Heroes. Although the book is aimed at readers who are familiar with Sale's work and the multitude of other comic creators mentioned, browsers will also find much to engage them as they enjoy the extensive collection of illustrations, sketches, and comic pages. A very occasional swear word and a few naked breasts should not keep this work out of high schools, colleges, and libraries with rabid American comic fans or older teens and adults yearning for a career in art. Amazing book into the artwork of a superb artist!

I don't know too much about art, but I am big comic fan and after seeing Tim Sale's stunning artwork in Batman: The Long Halloween I became hooked. I have since then checked out Batman Dark Victory, Daredevil Yellow, and Spider-Man Blue, all drawn by Tim Sale, all very amazing. I looked and saw this book and just HAD to order it. It's an amazing a fascinating book filled with some of the most amazing drawings I've ever seen as well as it is fascinating to read Tim Sale's thoughts on everything. Not to mention the quality of the book is amazing, great hardcover book with thick quality pages. I highly recommend to anyone who loves art, especially comic fans!

Insight into the art and artist

This is a beautiful book about the work and life of one of comics best artists. Part biography, mostly art, it's a feast for the eyes and not necessarily for kids. I don't know who inspired those bombshells and babes, but wish I was drawn that way.
