Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathleen Karr
While brightly colored and busily "sound-bite" designed to meet current readers' expectations, this Time sponsored almanac is considerably heavier on copy than the competition. It also covers more categories, including one on "Books and Literature." It is gratifying to see book awards given as stats with equal (well, almost equal) coverage as found in the "Sports" section. The "Geography" section manages full maps of all the continents, as well as a useful world time zone map. Extra attractions are coverage of "Buildings and Architecture"(including a brief discussion of the hot new topic of "green architecture"), "Games" (lists of bestselling PC Games), plus an analysis of classic board games like "Monopoly" ,and a quick recap of color theory (with color wheel) and visual art materials. But best of all, this almanac begins with the "Year in Review," covering topics from "Somali Pirates" to the death of Heath Ledger. It is good to have all this arbitrary information grounded in the reality of daily life. An index is included. Reviewer: Kathleen Karr
