A Great Father's Day Present for the U.S. History Buff

Please don't be misled by the Young Adult designation. The editors of Time-Life have accessed many of the best photos and paintings in American History, and have come up with a wonderful volume of Americana that belongs in every U.S. History buffs home library.

Granted, there's not much in the way of text, but the book is broken down into categorical time frames, the summations are concise, and there's informative captions by each illustration. For me, the best sections of this book deal with the Civil War and the Westward Expansion. Portraits of Lincoln, battlefield dead, Cowboys on the trail, the dignity of the Indian, the Oklahoma Land Rush and much, much more. A beautiful book at a very beautiful price.
