Time to Say Goodbye

( 20 )

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
Sarah Brightman, who enjoyed a European hit with "Time to Say Goodbye," her duet with Andrea Bocelli, constructed an album beginning with that recording and continuing in kind. The characteristics of the hit -- a lush, melodramatic, mock-operatic arrangement complete with a crescendo out of Ravel's "Bolero" and soaring voices singing in English and Italian -- are repeated here, whether the material is drawn from Puccini, the Gipsy Kings, or Queen.

I personally love most every song on this album. When my sister heard it, while in my car, she said that she too loved it. So, as part of her Christmas gift, I'm getting it for her. We both enjoy hearing Sarah Brightman.

    Not her usual self.

I love Sarah Brightman, but in this particular album, she sounds exactly like she either has peanut butter stuck to the roof of her mouth, like in "O Mio Babbino Caro" or her tongue is coated with vinegar, like in "Tu Quieres Volver." She has a beautiful voice, but she seriously needs to hire a new vocal coach.

    Gorgeous

I love this album! I've always loved the song Con Te Partiro and thats got to be the best song on this album. Sarah was great, as usual. Also, andrea Brocelli has a great voice.

    A Beautiful and Moving album!

I revere Sarah Brightman and love this album, but I know that it is not for everyone. Let me just say that if you favor a heavily operatic voice and a traditional interpretation of classical pieces this album is not the best choice for you. But for those who like crossover artists such as Bocceli, this album is an absolute must; it is great! Sarah Brightmans sings with more breath and less vibratto than opera stars (which is a chief reason I like her very much, but others will see the matter differntly). Also, her intrumentation and vocals take the music in a more pop and dance direction than classical music is tradiionally taken (again, I love this! But it's not for all). This causes some to dismiss her as having a lack of talent. That claim is untrue. Ms. Brightman has a sweet, moving, and beautiful voice. Her vocal skills show great versatility, range, and scope. This is an ablum that truly merits five stars. Music lovers who appreciate classical crossover will not be dissapointed by Ms. Brightman.

Zhuang Wei : Sarah Brightman is a wonderful opera singer!

I really do not understand why someone would say she is an amateur. Her voice is very clear and her performance is very sincere.

    She shouldn't be making CDs...

Sarah Brightman is an amateur opera singer...she makes even Charlotte Church sound good! In all of her Enlish songs, she has bright vowels...way too much vibrato. I was especially disgusted with "O Mio Babbino Caro." She sounds like she swallowed a lemon. Come on! Sarah needs to open up more on her Italian and tone it down on her English. Terrible...don't waste you're money.

    Brightman and Bocelli

Why didn't I think of that? Sara still soars and when her voice entwines with his it is magic that brings tears to my eyes.

Great voice but I'd prefer more english

I bought this album after seeing the end of interview (I think it was Biography channel) and they played her version of Queen's ''Who wnats to live forever'' - then I knew I wanted that song. I've heard Bocelli's solo for ''Con Te Partiro'' but I didn't know it was also duet -so the album sold itself when I heard the first track. She has great voice, production and recording is very good - this album is faultless. [Even though the liner notes have an english translation (all albums should be doing this) and the lyrics are meaningful on the foreign songs, I'd prefer to have her voice on english songs - I guess I take it for granted that so much of world's media is in english. Still, if I pay for an album why not have lyrics I can understand?]

    One of my all-time favorites!

I just received this title as an early Christmas gift, and I am absolutely amazed. This album is WONDERFUL, and to top it off, there is a duet with Andrea Bocelli, another of my favorite singers. Con te partirò is a beautiful song, and puts even the others on this album to shame. If you even REMOTELY like operattic music, GET THIS CD!!!!!!!!

Sarah Brightman - Remarkable, breathtaking, & a work of art.

Her Angelic voice is truly a precious gift. Her music is absolutely radiant, elegant, & distinguished. I love her music. I am a music fan with a wide range of musical interest including pop, classical, Jazz, R&B, easy listening, and opera. Sarah Brightman's music ranks as one of my favorites. I have purchased 4 of her CD's so far, and I plan to buy more. Every CD & every song is a musical masterpiece. Her captivating music reveals her passion and dedication to music and to her fans. She is amazing.

    Excellent vocals!

Sarah Brightman's voice is wonderful. And I think Andrea Bocelli's is even better, especially in 'Time to say goodbye'.

    Sensational Sarah

I've only heard one song from this album, 'Time to Say Goodbye' and I'm hooked and this comes from someone who usually listens to much harder stuff.

This album is intended for elaborate music lovers only.

...like me, a 17-year-old Latina idiot from New York City, the so-called 'crossroads of the world.' Mother first bought this album in June 1998 after I asked if she get it. Until then, never in my entire life did I hear of this woman, who also happened to be a former star of ex-hubby Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'The Phantom of the Opera.' This is the version of her record-sharing classical album, 'Timeless,' that I currently own. In the beginning, when I first listened to this album, I thought it was 'Yeah, right. It ain't ALL that.' But soon I found myself listening to almost every song on this CD more and more, every time getting all the more into them, until it seemed that I'll never get sick of this album. I'd felt all the sorrier for its dangling struggle on the Billboard 200 Album Chart (it's classical under easy listening, you see) but pleased to know that it spent many weeks at No. 1 on the classical crossover charts, and believe me, that's success in itself. It also won a gold certification in 1998 (a very good thing, because gold certifications in America, an 'all-drums-and-no-strings' nation, used to be rarer than even a Pokemon Mew card for classically-orientated CDs) and a platinum certification just recently (it's about time, too!). (About the term 'elaborate music,' this refers to music performed by an orchestra, like classical and easy listening, which Americans like only if it's modern songs done by Andrea Bocelli, one of my favorite ever singers.) Good news: spectacular digital sound and outstanding performances by Andrea Bocelli (who was the reason I became crazy for Sarah in the first place!) and Jose Cura. Bad news: towards the end of 'La Wally,' Sarah tries too hard to keep up the pace with the overpowering sound of the London Symphony Orchestra (the role is intended for dramatic singers only), and on the closer, W.A. Mozart's 'Alleluja,' Sarah launches a pretty rough coloratura. Those were the reasons I gave this album a four-out-of-five rating. Bottom line: still a great classical treat. 'La Luna' is on the way in September, but even that might not hold out against this.

Sarah Brightman's Time to Say Goodbye is brilliant!

This is by far my favorite Sarah Brightman Cd. It contains a wonderful variety of music which is inspiring to say the least. Also includes songs with other famous artists, including Andrea Bochelli.

    A real treasure

I only recently started listening to Sarah Brightman and was advised by devotees that this CD was the one to buy. After listening to two of her more recent CD's, Eden and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection, I think that Time to Say Goodbye is the best of the three. The songs on TTSG showcase her splendid voice (in both range & style) as do the duets with a male vocalist whose voice is such a beautiful contrast to hers. I gave this CD to all my relatives for Christmas, I liked it so much.
