Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Julia Beiker
In this book, you are the hero and you decide your own fate. At the beginning of the story, you are at school and the science fair has started. Your buddy Jimmy has created a time machine from plans that belong to his father, the world famous scientist Dr. Felix Noseleather. As you near the machine to check it out, a sudden flash of light burst out of it and reveals a door. Curious, you edge closer and closer, then the light pulls you in! What happens next depended on whether you chose to go see a horse on a grassy area or look for strange plants on a rocky hillside. What should you pick? Remember, each choice can help you to find your way home or leave you in a place of no return. You may find a wizard or a beautiful princess. Which would be better to take home to Mom? Dan Jolley has revisited the "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" format of old to pull reluctant readers into a fun world where critical reading does not stress the brain. The combination of real book text and graphic cartoons ensures the book is appealing from the start. Another fascinating trick used here is the change of scene; for example, the reader can opt for medieval times or the Wild West. Each of the actual stories only last a few pages, but the reader will want to keep reading, trying a different path each time. This book is number six of the "Twisted Journey" series.
