A Scripture-led devotional to encourage and bless time
between fathers and their heavenly Father.
with God for Fathers is filled with ninety devotions that encourage fathers to spend
time on their relationship with the Lord in prayer, thanksgiving, and praise.
Devotions are topical and include: forgiveness, wisdom, comfort, guidance, and
strength. A Quick Scripture Reference Guide is included to help fathers in
their day-to-day walk with God and fatherhood. Subjects consist of "Father's
Prayers", "God's Promises for Fathers", "God's Blessings
for Fathers", "Responsibilities for Fathers", and "God's
Dynamic Examples of Fathers".
For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Psalm 95:3–7
To worship your lord and heavenly Father is the most wonderful way you can demonstrate the majesty of God. When you open your heart and experience the presence of God in worship, He will speak to you personally. To grow in Christ, it is essential for you to worship your Creator and God. You are His chosen child and He is your sovereign God, who has the power and wisdom to make everything happen in your life that He desires. The scripture invites you to come, worship, and bow down. Do so often, because He loves you with an everlasting love.
OBEDIENCE IS ESSENTIAL FOR FATHERS
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. HEBREWS 4:12
Obedience is a response that every father desires from his children. When children are obedient to his direction and guidance, there is peace in his home. The same is true with your heavenly Father. When you obey His commands and abide in His Word, you are blessed and your relationship with God is warm and pursuable. Let God's Word be your daily guide and allow His spirit to speak to your heart. You, as a father, have been given a great responsibility as priest and leader of your family and home. be an example of godly obedience to your loved ones.
A FATHER'S PRAYER
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. PHILIPPIANS 4:6–7
Father, You are more precious to me than life. Thank You for the gift of salvation, which You so generously have given. Forgive me when I have failed to be the father You wish for me to be. Pour out Your spirit upon me that I might boldly come to the throne of grace and find mercy and power in Your presence. You have blessed me with children and a family; guide me in my words and actions toward them. Shower me with the peace that passes all understanding. Guard my heart and mind so that each day I will be the father You wish for me to be. In Jesus' name, amen.
LISTEN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
"If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." JOHN 14:14–18
You have been given a Helper. Someone who will be with you in every circumstance of life. This is a promise that God has given to everyone who believes and accepts Jesus as their personal savior. Learning to listen does not come easily. But when you seek the Lord with all of your heart, His Spirit will be with you to comfort, strengthen, and give you the guidance you want and need in every situation. "If you love Me, keep My commandments" is an essential part of your relationship with God and is necessary for the Holy Spirit to be your comforter and guide. Meditate each day on God's Word, and His Spirit will abide with you forever.
A FATHER'S ETERNAL HOPE
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 PETER 1:3–5
Fathers will face certain challenges and times when the circumstances of life may test your faith. But God has promised through His abundant mercy that you have a living and eternal hope in Jesus Christ, and there is no one or nothing—no challenge or circumstance—that can take that away. The resurrection of Jesus guarantees that God will honor all of His promises to His faithful children. Even when you may find yourself in seemingly hopeless situations, know that God loves you and He will make something beautiful out of your life, no matter how bruised and broken it may be.
WISDOM FOR EACH DAY
Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. PROVERBS 4:5–7
Wisdom and understanding are precious commodities, and God encourages us through His Word to seek them. So many times in life, we try to solve life's problems without God's help. God's guidance is more than sufficient for all the tests and trials we might have to face, but in order to benefit from it, we have to seek it out. God has instructed us to come to Him for wisdom. James 1:5 promises, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." That promise is for you.
THANK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17–18
When we think about being forgiven, it is like a great weight has been lifted from our shoulders. The beauty of God's forgiveness is that He has promised that our sin will not be remembered ever again. When we belong to Christ, we are His new creation, and the old things that haunt us have passed away. This wonderful gift that God—through His mercy—has given us allows us the freedom to live each day with joy in our hearts and the knowledge that our sins are forgiven. We can then boldly bear witness to the saving grace of our heavenly Father; therefore, let your light so shine that each of your children may see the love of God in you.
WHEN TROUBLE WALKS IN YOUR DOOR
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. PROVERBS 3:5–6
Trouble comes to everyone in all shapes and sizes. But what you do with that trouble is all that really matters. Learning to "trust in the lord with all your heart" is the first step in dealing with trouble. A wise father learns to include God when trouble knocks on his door. God has promised that when you acknowledge Him in all your ways, He will direct your path. God does not intend for you to go through life alone. When you choose to depend on Him for wisdom, He promises to guide your path for His glory and your benefit. You are blessed—even when trouble walks in your door.
WITH GOD THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FEAR
The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. PSALM 27:1, 3
You do not need to be afraid of anything when the Lord gives you His light. You do not need to fear the power of those who might come against you when you walk in the power of God's Spirit. First John 4:18 says, "Perfect love casts out fear." Let each day begin by thanking God for His saving grace and by looking forward to what God's Spirit has planned for you. You will be amazed how that approach to life will affect your entire family, and you will be awed by the blessings you will receive.
COURAGE TO BE A FATHER OF INTEGRITY
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. PROVERBS 11:1–3
Honesty and integrity in every area of a father's life is a blueprint for the man God wishes you to be. This is true in your personal life, as well as your business practices. The example you demonstrate for your children will speak volumes and will greatly impact their character development as they grow into adults. The Lord calls you to do what is good and right, not only because godly living reflects His holy character, but also because it benefits and blesses you. Living honestly for God each day will bring life's greatest reward.
AS HEAD OF THE HOUSE, THE BUCK STOPS HERE
"Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God." LUKE 12:8–9
As a father, you are responsible for the spiritual development of each person in your family. The person that each child becomes will be a reflection of the time and attention you have given that child. Ask God to give you the wisdom, understanding, and patience to guide and direct the physical, emotional, and spiritual development of those He has so graciously given you to nurture and raise. The stamp that you imprint on the character of your loved ones will stay with them for life. May you reflect the godly character you wish each of your children to have.
DO YOU LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR?
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's." EXODUS 20:16–17
The love of God and the love of those created in His image form the backbone of everything God says in His Word. When the attitude of love for your neighbor becomes part of your everyday life, caring about others becomes a natural outpouring of God's desire for those who are part of His family. When you as a Christian demonstrate the love of God to your neighbors, you become the person God wishes you to be. God cares for you, so let His love flow from you to your neighbors.
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN EVERY DAY
Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." MATTHEW 22:37–40
When learning about God becomes a part of the daily habits of a family, the Christian life and character will naturally grow and create the love for God's Word that is so essential in the Christian development of your children. God loves for you to use nature and His beauty around you as a ready source of spiritual object lessons. While observing nature is no substitute for spending time in His Word, it can open your eyes to spiritual truth in a way nothing else does. Take time each day to point out the power of God's presence all around you.
EVERYTHING BEGINS WITH TRUST
And he said: "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence." 2 SAMUEL 22:2–3
The word trust is mentioned in the bible over fifty times. God asks you to "trust in the lord with all your heart" (Proverbs 3:5). When you learn to accept this command, you can face any circumstance with confidence and hope because it is not your strength, wisdom, energy, or power that brings victory in life. Triumph comes because of God's ability, and when you place your trust in Him, you tap into an irresistible force that no one or nothing can successfully oppose.
GRATITUDE BEGINS WITH ATTITUDE
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. PHILIPPIANS 4:8
Have you ever had someone say, "You need to change your attitude"? How we approach the challenges of life determines the kind of person we become. If we ponder negative things, our frame of mind will soon turn sour, pessimistic, and negative. If we fill our minds with the things of God, however, the opposite will occur, and we will begin to see the world as God sees it. God wants us to be transformed into people who love to please Him through willing obedience. That transformation begins in the mind and transcends into an attitude of gratitude.
KINDNESS IS CONTAGIOUS
"Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!" MATTHEW 7:9–11
A father who has a kind and tender heart will be a magnet to those whom he loves, especially to those in his immediate family. Everyone craves love and encouragement. When you demonstrate your love through kindness and a caring heart, you build confidence, security, and a foundation of trust for your family that will not be broken. As God demonstrates His love, grace, and mercy to you each day, so let your words and actions daily reflect that same love, grace, and mercy to each of your children.
THE COMFORT ONLY GOD CAN GIVE
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 2 CORINTHIANS 1:3–5
The "God of all comfort." These are truly encouraging words. When trials and unexpected situations come into your life, you may ask, "Why?" but never doubt that God will come to your aid, because that is His promise for those who follow Christ. He is the Father of all mercy and the one "who comforts us in all our tribulation." He will see you through whatever trials you may be facing. He will then use those experiences to train you, in turn, to be a comfort to those around you.
THE STRENGTH ONLY GOD CAN GIVE
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ROMANS 8:38&ndash39
A father's life is filled with joy, happiness, peace, challenge, trials, sorrow, worry, fear, and doubt. These are the common adjectives of every father's life. But once you accept God's love through faith in Jesus Christ, nothing can break the bonds of that love He creates. John 10:29 says, "no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand." Begin each day by praising God for His love, and look forward to sharing His love with each precious soul God has given you to nurture and raise.

Hi there again. I've gotten a new book from booksneeze recently- "Time with God for Fathers" by Jack Countryman. Before I get started, let me tell you that due to some long legal thing, I don't have to give this book a good review. So whatever I say is really legit how I feel. Now, on to the actual review. Now, understand. I'm not a dad. Considering the fact that I'm female automatically disqualifies me. But I still felt compelled to get this book. I mean, it's so PRETTY! I mean, um, handsome:) The cover is a rich leather brown, with a neat band wrapped around to keep it organized. Essentially, this is a good devotional for dads. It's not neccesarily a new concept, but it's good to see it reused every so often. I think our society now needs more men to step up and be good role models for the younger generations. This book aims, in my opinion, to encourage this. Different devotionals in this book are on topics such as the essence of worship, how obedience is good for dads, how to listen to the Holy Spirt, et cetera. At the back is an index of Bible verses that apply to "crisis situations" and common pitfalls. It's not a terribly long book, and a lot of the devotions are short and fairly basic. I would probably recommend it more to a new dad or for a new Christian. But it's still a good book- four out of five stars:)Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Time With God For Fathers features ninety short devotions with Scriptures that encourage fathers to spend time with the Lord and grow with their family. Each devotional is under a small page long, and gives a different focus for each day, spanning different books of the New King James Bible. Subjects include "The Choice Is Yours: God Or Money", "A Father's Eternal Hope", and many others. At the end of the book is a section for notes, a crisis Scripture guide that directs you to scriptures in the Bible to help guide you through the rough patches, and another area that directs you to certain Scriptures depending on what you'd like to read about ("God's Dynamic Examples of Fathers", for instance) The book itself is presented in a way that makes it perfect for gift giving - the hardcover book has an antiquated feel to it.Was this review helpful? Wow! I just received this hard cover book in the mail, and I am so excited! :) It is always hard to get my husband something for Father's Day...what do you get the man who has everything, yet needs nothing?
"Time with God for Fathers" is the perfect gift! Taken from the back cover..."Little in life compares with the honor of being called "Dad." A father is his family's foundation, his wife's partner, and his children's hero. Filled with powerful insights into God's Word, this Scripture-led devotional offers help and guidance for a hope-filled, daily walk with Him."
Until I received this in the mail, I wasn't sure it would be what I was looking for. From the first time I laid eyes on it, I could tell it was the "perfect" gift book for the Man I love! My husband is a busy man, teaching 5th grade, and likes to do his devotions during his lunch break at school. Each daily devotion is started with a Scripture and followed by a paragraph or two, easily readable in 5-7 minutes. At the back of the book, there is even a little "notes" section where they can record their thoughts (I know, but some guys really do!).
The only tricky thing now is holding back the book until June, but then again, he does have a birthday coming up in May! We may just have to give it to him then...
This book has earned 5 stars!
