This book is about timeless moments -- moments that have changed not only the men and women involved in them, but all of history as well. Though they may have occurred thousands of years ago, they still shape our lives today.

Timeless Moments is a book about real people just like you and me -- the strong and the weak, the winners and the losers, the good and the bad. It is about men and women, boys and girls, babies and children. It is about the rich and the poor; the blind, weak, and lame; the strong and the powerful; those of great faith and those of little or no faith at all.

Even more, it is a book about God's plan, born in eternity before the universe existed. It is about God's purpose for you and me today. You are not here by accident but by a divine plan and for a noble purpose -- "for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14 niv).

Timeless Moments is designed to help you live, not just survive. It is for those who may feel their faith waning, those who need their spiritual roots to sink deeper into the eternal soil of God's everlasting love. It is for those who long to feel and experience the freshness of the Spirit's wind blowing across their souls. It is for those who want to find their way out of the asphalt jungles of stress, heartache, and unfulfilled lives.

Timeless Moments isabout more than believing in a God who holds all history in his hand. It is about comprehending your own purpose in life and making application of the Bible's timeless truth. It is about seeing the big picture -- something many never do.

When I was a little boy, my mother would pull out a box of cardboard picture puzzles on cold and rainy days. We children would sit on the floor for hours trying to fit all the pieces together. Occasionally we would find the box cover with the picture on it and surprise Mom by putting the puzzle together in record time. How smart we were -- although I suspect she wasn't fooled!

The Bible is somewhat similar. If you have the big picture, you can grasp the meaning of its parts more easily. When we merely read a little here and a little there, all disconnected from the rest, we miss the beauty, design, and scope of its everlasting truth. We fail to comprehend the bigness and greatness of God and his work on our behalf.

You see, for the Bible to be meaningful and real, you must not only see the big picture, you must also see yourself in the picture.

That's the purpose of Timeless Moments. Each chapter is designed to follow the one before it, drawing you into an ever-expanding vision of God and calling you to open your heart to the increasing tug of his hand upon your life. Each story leads purposefully to the next one, so don't skip a chapter!

Come with me as we follow the golden threads of history that run from Genesis to Revelation; from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to Mary, Nicodemus, and the apostle Paul. Come with me as we climb Golgotha's hill together in that timeless moment of all history when Jesus wrapped himself in the garments of our sin and defeated death once and for all. Peer with me into the empty tomb as we see for ourselves the miracle of miracles: the resurrection of the Son of God!

Celebrate with me as we witness the unveiling of mysteries as history's threads weave themselves into one final, timeless portrait at the moment of Jesus' triumphal coming.

I promise it will be an amazing journey, one marked by joy and yearning, adventure and catastrophe, miracles and tears. But even when you turn the final page, it will not be complete; for God is carefully mounting all of our faces in his eternal album of timeless moments -- and history is still being changed.

Section One Introduction

Where did we come from?

Why did God create us?

How did evil enter the world?

Why is there suffering in the world?

Is there life after death?

So many questions! So many mysteries!

The Bible is a book about the unveiling of mysteries. It speaks of the mysteries of God, of Christ, and of the Gospel. It even tells about plans God made for us before the world began. Teaching by teaching, line by line, the Bible reveals the mystery of things too awesome for us to fully understand.

And as these mysteries are unveiled, the truths revealed become beautiful threads that are woven together to create a majestic tapestry of God's love.

This book begins with the beginning of time as we know it. Here we are introduced to the mystery of God's desire for relationship with his creation as well as the mystery of evil's entrance into his perfect world. When the Evil One seduced God's special creation, the fellowship with God was severed and the bliss of Eden ended.

As time passed and the world's population grew, the influence of evil gained momentum as men and women repeatedly chose to disobey God. The Great Flood of Noah's day stands as a vivid reminder to all generations of God's displeasure with evil and violence.

Yet, in spite of the wrath he sent upon the earth, hope arched over the sky in the form of a beautiful rainbow as Noah and his family disembarked the ark. It was a new beginning.

The golden thread of promise first revealed in Genesis 3:15 will survive the many

turbulent years that lay ahead and weave itself into the divine tapestry of timeless moments.
