A friends to lovers/second chance romance

    Reviewed by Kim
for Read Your Writes Book Reviews

Becca Huntley, Jack Whittaker and Tyler Petersen were all best friends in high school. In fact, they were like the Three Musketeers, one for all and all for one. But Jack was different from Becca and Tyler. Jack was the poor kid of the school janitor and the other kids never let him forget it. When he finally graduated from high school, he couldn't wait to leave Minneapolis and swore he would never return.

Fast forward ten years and not only is he returning to the Twin Cities, he's there to direct a Christmas play being produced by Becca. A play that Tyler was supposed to direct until he decided at the last minute to check into rehab. Did I mention that Jack has hated Christmas since he was a child? Jack and Ty are business partners so Jack has no choice but to rearrange his schedule and the production schedule to fill in for Ty.

So far so good. My problem with the book is Ty's parents. I understand their first appearance in the book, but that should have been that. Honestly, they probably shouldn't have even been in the book at all. Jack and Becca are at a crossroads in their lives and are making discoveries about their high school days and the part Ty played in their lives. This Christmas could be the Christmas that Becca and Jack are finally pointed in the right direction, free to follow their own dreams, and get everything they've ever dreamed of.

I'm a big fan of Christi Barth so it really pains me to say that I didn't like this book. I found it to be enjoyable at times and other times truly frustrating. Tinsel My Heart is a friends to lovers/second chance romance story that could have been so much more.

Jack Whittaker made a promise when he left Minneapolis he would

Jack Whittaker made a promise when he left Minneapolis he would never return, but after his best friend continues to derail and leaves the Lyndale Park Players in a lurch with their Christmas production, Jack steps in.  He knows his secret crush from high school is part of the production, but because she had been his best friend's girl, he never acted on it.
Becca Huntley always regretted when Jack left, she had been young but she had never denied  there was an attraction but Jack never knew how she felt.  Now thrown together Becca goes from being thrilled to see him again to wanting to strangle his neck with tinsel, she has never met a Christmas hater before, but Jack is that personified.  With a little Christmas spirit, Jack may just get the girl and Becca may change Jack into a Christmas believed.
Charming holiday read.  There are some really funny moments in the story and you definitely get into the spirit of the holiday.  If your looking for a book to nestle up to with a warm cup of cocoa, this is the one to pick up.

Becca Huntley once dreamed of a famous career in theater, but family needs kept her from fulfilling those dreams. She scaled down her dreams and invested her talents with the Lyndale Park Players and for the last prior ten years the have produced a lavish and successful Christmas Show. This year they have planned to use the profits to by a new home for the group. With just a few weeks to go before opening night everything is in danger of falling apart. Her childhood friend and famous director Ty had donated his name and talent to the production then suddenly checked himself into Rehab. Ty's business partner and Becca's high school crush, Jack Whittaker steps in to fulfill Ty's obligation.

Jack left the town and all the bad times behind him when he left town following graduation and he never looked back. Seeing as Scrooge could have been modeled after him doing a Christmas play is almost a joke. The only bright spot in this dismal scenario is that he will have the opportunity to spend some time with Becca, the girl he desired in high school, that is until she chose his best friend Ty. With memories weighing him down the kisses he shares with Becca warm his heart. Maybe like the fabled Scrooge Becca can show him the true meaning of Christmas before he leaves her behind again.

This is a quick and charming Novella that can be enjoyed during an afternoon respite for household chores or if you find yourself sitting in front of a cozy fire on a cold winter's night. Who doesn't love a story about second chances at getting love right. Ms. Barth uses humor and witty dialog to help keep the story light. She also shows how determination can help one overcome a childhood that is far less than ideal. You will most definitely cheer for Jack and Becca. Take the time to see how things develop between the two. Will their new connection survive past the show? Find out for yourself soon.

Tinsel My Heart is a holiday novella by author Christi Barth and

Tinsel My Heart is a holiday novella by author Christi Barth and is part of the All I’m Asking For: A Contemporary Christmas Anthology.  I adored this read and, in fact, it may actually be my favorite work from Christi!
The pressure to put on the Lyndale Park Players’ annual Christmas show and fundraiser has never been greater for Becca Huntley.  And of course, this is the year that the show may not go on.  In an attempt to raise money for a new home for the LPP, they decided to make this year’s show into a DVD to sell.  Ty, her childhood friend and famous movie director, agreed to donate his time and make it happen.  Now, only a few weeks before LPP needs to make the move to a new home and have their funds raised, the director ends up in rehab.  At a loss for what to do next, Becca is shocked when Ty’s directing partner and also a childhood friend, Jack Whittaker, comes to the rescue.  Figures that the guy she’s had a crush on since a kid and the biggest Grinch she’s even known would be here to help.  Becca’s new mission is to change Jack’s mind about Christmas and try to keep her old feelings at bay…..the latter of those two not looking promising.
Jack Whittaker couldn’t believe the mess he was in now, thanks to his best friend and business partner Ty.  He never wanted to step foot in his hometown again, especially at Christmas. Now, facing all of the bad memories of being made fun of all through his childhood, he has to direct the annual Christmas play.  He was going to kill Ty when he gets out of rehab.  The only saving grace in this whole mess is that he would be working with Becca.  The girl he’s had an insane crush on for as long as he can remember.  Seeing her again may be the only thing that keeps him sane during this Christmas hell.  Seeing her again also makes him realize he has to tell her how much she means to him and how much he needs her.  She’s the one that could thaw out his frozen heart.
This story was fantastic from start to finish.  They backstory between Ty, Jack and Becca really added to things.  The way they were the three amigos when they were kids was a layer to the story that I enjoyed.  I loved that Becca and Jack had a mutual hidden attraction for years and finally have a chance to act on it.  Becca is a loyal and caring gal with a big heart for the ones she loves.  I admired how much she put into making this show work.  Jack was a tough nut to crack, if I do say so myself.  Not that I didn’t love him from the very beginning, but in that Becca sure had her work cut out! He is also loyal and kind to the people he holds close which is at odds with the gruff exterior he displays.  I fell in love with him even more when we learned about his childhood and how rough it was for him growing up in a small town and being labeled a poor kid.  It absolutely broke my heart.  Becca, knowing how difficult it was for Jack to be back, was there for him and it was beautiful to see them reconnect but in a much deeper way than they ever had….and it was sexy and hot and oh-so-delicious! Oh, and the ending scene?  So.  Freaking.  Perfect!
I highly recommend this holiday read.  So, grab some hot cocoa, sit by the fire and enjoy!  Thank you, Christi, for a heartwarming story!
