Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Nothing, no nothing pleases Tip today. Everyone is gawking at the mischievous mousekin. From morning 'til night, Tip is being stubborn and nothing changes his attitude. It is every mother's fate as she attempts to contend with a child's unpleasant behavior—each page finds her practicing extreme patience and a variety of disciplinary techniques. Mama offers him choices after he climbs aboard a cat (she reminds him what cats do to mice) on the merry-go-round. She suggests that Teddy, his bear, help pick up toys left scattered on the ground. While shopping, mom firmly refuses to purchase a toy and ice cream. He does not share with friends and the final straw comes as he digs his heels in the ground when it is time to go home. He is running away and Mama leaves him to fend for himself. Mama and papa mouse rescue the strong-willed Tip at day's end. Youngsters will love the playful antics of the colorfully-clothed characters inside the bright red padded covered book and end papers. Enchanting facial expressions and full-page figures permits the reader to compare mice size with a variety of objects appearing near them—paintbrush, needle, tin can, rocks, brilliant flowers and leaves. Brief, easy-to-read text with generous primary font size appears at the top of each set of facing pages. Hopefully Tip will get up on the right side of the bed tomorrow. 2005, Gingham Dog Press, Ages 4 to 7.
