Meet the Author

Javier Cortez has been a tipi camper, buckskinner, and creator of wearable art since the early 1970s. He has demonstrated craft and camping skills at art shows and heritage festivals across Texas. His bead and leather work has appeared on album covers, folk and country music videos, and the 2004 Touchstone Pictures film, The Alamo.

Dyanne Fry Cortez has been writing about Texas culture and characters since 1979. Her work has been featured in American Profile, Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine, and the syndicated radio program Earth and Sky. She is the author of Hot Jams & Cold Showers: Scenes from the Kerrville Folk Festival (Dos Puertas Publishing, 2000) and was one of 55 writers featured in Cupid's Wild Arrows, an international anthology on cross-cultural marriage, published by Bergli Books of Switzerland.

Mr. and Mrs. Cortez live in Austin, Texas, and go camping in their 16-foot tipi as often as they can.

    Personality: She is morbidly shy, that's all she'll be for a while yet. But as she starts to open up, she becomes brave and trustworthy. <p>

    Note: Ok, I just finished Moonrise, (the one where they introduce the tribe cats for the first time) so please don't yell at me if I can't grasp everything...

    Thunder that Booms Loudly

    Name: Thunder that Booms Loudly, aka, Thunder. Gender: Tom. Rank: Cave-gaurd. Age: around 25 moons. Looks: He has a slightly muscular build with an oddly large front left paw. His pelt is reddish brown, but his ears are dark brown and he has mynt green eyes. Also he is a little bit bigger than most cats his age, which is what makes him a good cave-guard.
