Overview

Wife, mother, and award-winning producer of the sleeper hit What the Bleep Do We Know!? Betsy Chasse thought she had it all figured out...until she realized she didn’t. She didn’t know anything about happiness, love, spirituality, or herself...nothing, nada, zilch.

In a book that’s anything but quiet, Chasse takes readers on a playful romp through the muddy fields of life and spirituality. Witty, yet unflinching, Chasse exposes her own experience tipping sacred cows and dissects the fragile beliefs we all hold so dear. Because the truth is, we each have a choice to believe the stories we tell ourselves or create new ones.

A candid, no-nonsense confession, Chasse’s story gives readers the freedom to break free from their old patterns and gleefully frolic through fields, cow tipping at will and in the process, create a new reality for themselves.

Publishers Weekly

Chasse knocks herself off her own pedestal in this irreverent answer to the 2005 sleeper hit film she co-created, What the Bleep Do We Know?! The spiritual seeker who seemed to have all the answers has come to doubt the neat conclusions that once satisfied. In her distinctively blunt style, Chasse’s self-help offering takes a critical yet entertaining look at the accepted spiritual wisdom, or “sacred cows,” of everything from quantum physics to the law of attraction. Chasse looks these ideas straight in the eye, and concludes that we don’t have to—and shouldn’t—take anything at face value. “We can even interrupt the brain’s process long enough to decide whether or not we want to believe something,” she writes. Chasse’s own reckoning process relies on neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy, popular culture, and her personal experiences; the scattered approach can feel a little manic at times, as we rush from one idea to the next. Her sharp wit and insistence on getting at the truth behind each of her own sacred cows, however, makes this a provocative and engaging read. (Jan.)
Rewire Me - Kaitlin Vogel
"Betsy Chasse may like to curse, but that doesn’t mar the clarity of her insights in Tipping Sacred Cows: The Uplifting Story of Spilt Milk and Finding Your Own Spiritual Path in a Hectic World. It’s her first book, and it’s a doozy: a touching and hilarious account of how Chasse rewired her own life—and a challenge to readers to question their belief systems, know that they don’t need to have all the answers, and realize that one size doesn’t fit all."
co-host of The View and bestselling author - Jenny McCarthy
"Betsy’s writing makes you feel like you’re chatting over a glass of wine in your living room with your girlfriends. She is raw, open, honest, and hilarious as she tries to figure out what the hell to make of this life. Tipping Sacred Cows is an emotional journey of self-destruction and discovery, and you’re rooting for her through the laughter and tears like you would a best friend."
founder of Intent.com - Malika Chopra
"Betsy Chasse exemplifies the true strength of a woman. Along her beautiful journey of vulnerability and reflection, Tipping Sacred Cows teaches us the importance of taking a step back, realigning our intentions, and never giving up on what we want out of life."
author of Indie Spiritualist: A No Bullshit Exploration of Spirituality - Chris Grosso
"Raw, authentic, humorous, and vulnerable, Tipping Sacred Cows offers readers everything that makes for a very worth (and life changing) literary endeavor. Thank you, Betsy, for having the "balls" to say what so many of us have already been thinking!"
Foundation for Conscious Evolution - Barbara Marx Hubbard
"Tipping Sacred Cows is a pure delight. It will make you laugh and give you courage to face anything...it will keep you on your path to your conscious evolution. A light and enlightening read."
author of Wabi Sabi Love - Arielle Ford
"This is the true story of a witty, wonderful, and wise woman who had it all, lost most of it, and then discovered how to have an amazing life. A former "new ager", Betsy Chasse has found her truth when it comes to reality, karma, destiny, the Law of Attraction, and especially the role of personal responsibility. Highly recommended."
bestselling author of I Had the Strangest Dream and It's All in Your Dreams - Kelly Sullivan Walden
"Who let the dog(ma)s out? Betsy Chasse's no nonsense humor and candor in Tipping Sacred Cows makes me tipsy with joy. Finally a book on spirituality that shines a klieg of light on the BS so that the true needle in the haystack can emerge."
comedian - Vanda Mikoloski
"What Betsy Chasse has evolved to say since What the Bleep is a huge contribution from a woman who never thinks she knows it all...I am so grateful she didn't bore me with a bunch of answers, but opened me with a bunch of inquiries."
author of Soulshaping - Jeff Brown
"Betsy is a master of enrealment. In this brilliantly authentic book, she invites us to reveal ourselves and join her in the everything. Detachment is a tool—it's not a life! As our masks and disguises fall away, we realize that spirituality and reality are indistinguishable threads of the same God weave. It's all spirit, even the dust that falls off our awakening hearts. I loved this wondrous book. Tipping Sacred Cows, indeed!"

Chasse (film cocreator, What the Bleep Do We Know!?) is candid and comic, sometimes alarmingly so, about the pleasures and inconveniences of her life. The film, above, that she cocreated was widely admired and criticized, but what she wants to share with us is the humor and resilience that help us get through life's small miseries and great self-doubts. VERDICT Fans of the film will want to see what Chasse has to say, especially in anticipation of her follow-up film, due in May of this year.
