Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This book has a single impressive pop-up of a 33” long paper model of the huge ill-fated ship. The book presents as a 12” wide by 10 ½” high hardback that opens in the middle of the front cover like a double door. Inside, there is a second hard cover announcing the arrival of the newest and largest White Star Line steamer, the RMS Titanic. On the left edge of this cover is an arrowhead with the words, “LIFT HERE AND PULL TO THE RIGHT.” By lifting the board page up and over to the right, a paper model of the ship can be pulled out to its full length. Unfortunately, because of its large size and the inherent fragility of its paper construction it is difficult to handle and must be opened on the floor or any other empty space at least 54” long. Those interested in the paper engineering will be fascinated with the construction of the boat in five sections which can never quite be pulled out enough to form a smooth sided boat. Also present in the package is a 32-page booklet that is a very clear and entertaining illustrated history of the ship containing all anyone could possibly want to know about the ship and its terrible ending. There is also a pocket in the front with more fascinating information specific to passenger luxury and a gallery of interior drawings showing life aboard a luxury liner in the first decades of the 20th Century. The information is well presented and the packaging of the pop-up is unique. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
