Percy Jackson is loyal, humble, and defends his friends. What's not to like? It seems, however, that the evil Dr. Thorn wants Percy, the son of Poseidon, dead. Dr. Thorn mocks the heroes and then boldly kidnaps Annabeth. The despicable act launches Percy and company on a cross-country rescue mission, allowing the author to work in classic myths, gods, and creatures. Action comes fast and furious here and only lets up when the characters pause to plan their next move. Several persons are repeated from the previous books, such as the wine-soaked Dionysus and Chiron, Camp Half-Blood's activity director. Key new arrivals are Artemis and her unit of hardened archers. These tough girls do not play around and conduct themselves as a deadly special-forces platoon-and it is a good thing, too. Artemis's warriors protect Percy's crew from a death squad of deranged skeletal soldiers as they zoom across the American West to save Annabeth. The screenplay-like story line and almost over-the-top action might alienate literary purists, but this reviewer is betting that teens will be thrilled by the wicked pace. Especially gripping is a brawl through the gods' junkyard with seventy-foot-tall Talos, a scene hinting of a manga title's mecha battle. Mixing humor with fantasy and rousing swordplay, this installment in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is a hero's epic quest reminiscent of cyberpunk science fiction or addictive videogames. Rick Riordan is also the author of the New York Times best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book One: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book Two: The Sea of Monsters. His previous novels for adults include the hugely popular Tres Navarre series, winner of the top three awards in the mystery genre. He lives in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife and two sons.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a terrific YA series by former middle school teacher and mystery writer Rick Riordan that revamps Greek mythology in a fun, fresh way kids find enthralling. A trouble-prone teen with attention deficit disorder and dyslexia, Percy is the half-blood son of Poseidon, one of 12 Olympian gods making mischief right here in 21st-century America. Praised by critics, librarians, and teachers, the Percy Jackson books have been honored with numerous awards and appear consistently on The New York Times bestseller list.

The series grew out of a sequence of bedtime stories Riordan invented for his son Haley -- who, at eight, had just been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Although Haley was having trouble in school, he loved the Greek myths and asked his dad to tell him some stories about the gods and heroes. Riordan ran through the standards from mythology, then began to invent new tales featuring some of the same characters and introducing a brave boy hero enough like Haley to make things interesting!

Haley begged his father to write the stories down, and in 2005, The Lightning Thief was published to excellent reviews. It was an instant hit with preteens, who loved the concept of a kid much like themselves -- i.e., embroiled in the everyday problems of school, family, and relationships -- embarking on heroic quests, soothing vengeful gods, and battling monsters.

In addition to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Riordan also writes books for adults, most notably a series of high-octane Tex-Mex thrillers featuring private investigator Jackson "Tres" Navarre, a complicated loner with an offbeat pedigree. (Tres -- pronounced "Trace" -- is a tai chi master with a Ph.D. in medieval literature who turns to detective work when he is unable to find a teaching job!) The first novel in the series, 1997's Big Red Tequila, scooped the Anthony and Shamus Awards, two of the three most prestigious prizes for Mystery & Crime fiction. Riordan completed the trifecta when his sequel, The Widower's Two-Step, won the coveted Edgar Award in 1999.

Between the two series, Riordan remains incredibly busy. For several years, he balanced writing with teaching English to middle school students. Reluctantly, he has left teaching (a career he thoroughly enjoyed) in order to write full-time, but he still harbors hopes that someday he'll return to the classroom. Meanwhile, he makes frequent visits to schools and enjoys meeting young readers on his book tours.

    An action packed thriller based on the greek gods in the current era!

    If you're looking for a romantic love story with heart-quenching, tear-jerking, lovey-dovey moments.... then you're looking at the wrong book here. BUT, if you're looking for an action packed thriller based on the greek gods in modern times (duh, the headline), then you've come to the right place. Percy Jackson found out in previous books that he is teh half-blood son of Posiedon. When you're a half-blood in a world like ours, you are either targeted by mythical monsters, misunderstood by mortals, or completely neutral in the minds of the gods... Percy is only lucky enough to be teo of these things, since most of the gods want him either dead, or they just don't care. This time, Percy is in for a doosy of a ride when he is dodging monsters such as the Manticore, or the Nemean Lion. Not only that, but he must save a friend, and a god, and maybe even take the full force of the Titan's curse! If you're ready for the ride of your life, then hop on the back of Blackjack, the black pegasus, and hold on tight!

    Great book

    While it does have children as main characters, they still captivate the reader and you get so into the problems and adventures they find themselves into. I recommend this book along with the series to all those young readers or young at heart :p.

    TOTE ALLI AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I've read all the books from this series and their incredible! They should totally make a movie out of these books. The descriptions are mezmorizing and the consepts of modern day gods and demi-gods inspires me. I hope more people will read these books. Even if your not a big fantasy person these books takes you into the 'reality' of the ancient greeks. In short you'll love it!!!!!!!!!!! :-

    Percy, Annabeth, Grover, And Thalia discover 2 more half-bloods. Bianca and Nico. Siblingd naturally. Well on their way out of Bianca and Nico's school they run into a monster. AND the only ones to save them are... the Hunters? If you are not familiar with the Hunters, they are a group of immortal maidens who follow Artemis, goddess of the hunt and the moon. They have sworn loyalty to her and have baned males from their life. Well, they save them, but in the process, Annabeth goes missing!!! Bianca joins the hunters, and Percy is dumbfounded! Artemis sets out for a hunt for the new monster lircing around, while the rest head back to Camp with the half-bloods. Artemis goes missing and Zoe Nightshade- Artemis' right hand maiden-calls a quest to save her. Her, Bianca, Thalia, and Grover are chosen to go. Zoe refuses to let Percy go because he is a boy. Grover doesn't count because is a stayr. TOO BAD! Percy goes anyway. As always. He follows behind them secretivly, but when he discovers Luke is after them, he warns them. He then has to tag along with them. But when Bianca dies (sorry i had to tell), Percy is at lost. When they find Artemis and Annabeth bearing the sky on their shoulders (an old myth) Zoe faces her father in a battle to the death to save Artemis. What a brave girl. Will they all make it out alive? :( They are all safe, for now.

    This Might Be My Favorite Book of the Entire Series!!!

    The Titan's Curse was a great book, filled with adventure, love, and surprises. I think that with all of the twists in this book, it might be my favorite. I also ove how Rick Riordan makes the book interesting with Greek mythology, but not dull. Rick has done it again!

    New Percy Jackson Book

    In this third book to the series Percy Jackson and his friend have to rescue the goddess Artemis and defeat a Titan (not saying which one. The only thing I'm saying is that it isn't Kronos.) This book was funny, full of action and adventure, and great! If you love Greek mythology with a twist then you have to read this book.
