Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
Titch goes to a party, but is reluctant to join in the fun because he thinks that his best friend Daisy is not there. The other children want him to dance, sing and play games, but Titch stays on the sidelines observing the kids doing all his favorite things at the party. Even though Titch does not see Daisy, the reader and observant children can find her on each page looking forlorn as she peeks out from her hiding places at the other children having fun. Daisy is forlorn because she misses Titch. They discover each other under the table as the children sit down to eat birthday cake. Now reunited, Titch and Daisy can enjoy the party and make new friends. The illustrations are well done and will challenge younger children as they try to find Daisy on each page.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1When Titch arrives at a party and doesn't find his friend Daisy among the guests, he refuses to participate in any of the activities. In fact, though, Daisy is in attendance, shyly hiding, wishing Titch were there. When the toddlers meet, they join in the festivities. Full-color gouache illustrations convey the lively setting and a pleasingly diverse set of party-goers. Ample use of white space into which the simple text is set makes the pages attractive and easy to share with young children. Curiously, Titch and Daisy seem to be distinctly younger than all of the other participants. This slight, winsome case of mistaken location focuses on the importance of friendship, but is not as compelling as Titch (Macmillan, 1971) and You'll Soon Grow into Them, Titch (Greenwillow, 1983). Nonetheless, this title will be welcomed by youngsters who follow Titch's growth and development.Carolyn Noah, Central Mass. Regional Library System, Worcester, MA
Carolyn Phelan
Titch feels reluctant to attend a party with children he doesn't know, but his mother assures him that his friend Daisy will be there, and so he goes. When he doesn't see Daisy, Titch withdraws and hides behind the sofa, inside the cupboard, and finally under the table. There he meets up with Daisy, who's been just out of his sight (and one hiding place ahead of him) the whole time. Together they feel confident enough to join in the festivities, singing, dancing, eating, and making new friends. Some observant preschoolers may catch on to Daisy's hidden presence the first time through, but others will enjoy spotting her on subsequent readings. The double-page illustrations feature clean, spare ink lines filled with bright, clear colors. Perhaps not as strong as the other "Titch" picture books, this story will still strike a chord with young children.
