Children's LiteratureTJ Barnes has to come up with a great science fair project. He doesn't want to be embarrassed in front of the other kids, but all TJ has to go with is the rocket kit his Gran picked up for him at a garage sale, which doesn't work quite as well as TJ might have hoped. When TJ's teacher's rival moves the Science Fair deadline, TJ and his classmates have to scurry to come up with acceptable projects and learn a little about the scientific method in the process. At the same time, TJ manages to solve the mystery of a series of thefts from his parents' hardware store. TJ's friend Seymour provides a lot of fascinating information about inventions and a little bit of humor. Occasional black and white illustrations by Kyrsten Brooker accompany the text. A good choice for supplemental classroom use for readers who are ready to transition to chapter books, this book is a sequel to TJ and the Cats and TJ and the Haunted House. 2004, Orca Book Publishers, Ages 6 to 9.
