Overview

A kayak accident during a South American adventure takes one woman to heaven—where she experienced God's peace, joy, and angels—and back to life again.

In 1999 in the Los Rios region of southern Chile, orthopedic surgeon, devoted wife, and loving mother Dr. Mary Neal drowned in a kayak accident. While cascading down a waterfall, her kayak became pinned at the bottom and she was immediately and completely submerged. Despite the rescue efforts of her companions, Mary was underwater for too long, and as a result, died.

To Heaven and Back is Mary's remarkable story of her life's spiritual journey and what happened as she moved from life to death to eternal life, and back again. Detailing her feelings and surroundings in heaven, her communication with angels, and her deep sense of sadness when she realized it wasn't her time, Mary shares the captivating experience of her modern-day miracle.

Mary's life has been forever changed by her newfound understanding of her purpose on earth, her awareness of God, her closer relationship with Jesus, and her personal spiritual journey suddenly enhanced by a first-hand experience in heaven. To Heaven and Back will reacquaint you with the hope, wonder, and promise of heaven, while enriching you own faith and walk with God.

Why would the reviewer below give Dr. Neal's book one lousy star, not based on the book itself but because it is not yet available on NOOK!??? How idiotic is that? This book deserves a 5 star rating as a compelling story detailing a life changing event which most of us (hopefully) will experience. Dr. Neal's mission is being accomplished every time someone reads her book. I bought Mary's book and read it within 24 hours. I have had many similar experiences, but not the experience of death and back to life. I believe Mary's story, and know God led me to that book yesterday as an answer to prayer. Still, I can understand how people who do not know God, or believe in God, would at times think her story ludicrous. That said, regardless of your level of faith, at some point we all must ask ourselves what we believe. Mary's story is like so many other God stories: God can take an ordinary person and do so many extraordinary things in and through his or her life. Her writing is easy to understand and yet thoughtful, accurate, grateful and unassuming, though not simplistic. If we will cultivate an attitude of rejoicing always, praying about everything and giving thanks in all things, any one of us can begin to see, understand and perceive the work of God on our behalf - in our lives and in the lives of those around us. God is a gentleman, and he reveals Himself to those whose hearts are His. "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. (2Chronicales 16:9)" Dr. Valerie Moore Hyer

This is a remarkable true story of one woman's extra-ordinary experience and her courage to share this with us. It offers all people one woman's perspective on what awaits us after death. It is a beautiful story that touched my heart. I would recommend this book highly.

Fascinating read--stayed up too late. Dr. Neal's experience renewed my faith in heaven. I have shared my book with my pastor who has to deal with grief on a regular basis. I will look for God's hand in my life much as Dr. Neal did.

I want this book but since it's unavailable for the Nook, I'll choose something else but it's a guaranteed sale if the publisher makes it available in e-book. Sounds great.

I saw this Dr. Neal on TV as well talking about her experiences and was looking forward to reading the book. I went into Barnes and Noble to buy the book (I don't like ordering online) and was told, they don't carry it, I have to order it. I did not. I will wait to see if they get it in, or wait for Costco to carry it. I don't understand if the book is being promoted on TV why Barnes and Noble is not ahead of the game an stocking some in the store. I don't like the Nook . If I am reading in the bathtub, fall asleep and "dip" the book I don't think the Nook will do very well:) I love my old fashioned books! I love the "new book" smell.

I am quite disappointed . I saw Ms. Neal on tv and believd her book could help me. I called Barnes and Knobles to buy it for my nook. I was told it is only paperback and not E Book format. I am sure I am not the only person with health problems that has to use a nook to read.Only if and when it becomes available on nook will I be able to buy it.
