To set things right, she has to be very wrong…

Former constable Daniel Carlyle hasn’t the foggiest notion how to be a viscount. No one is more shocked than he when his father’s second cousin and his son die on the same day. When a prominent earl offers to guide Daniel through Society and the House of Lords, he’s grateful to have a champion. Things seem to be falling into place when he meets a lovely young woman he intends to make his viscountess. Until he catches her stealing from his mentor.

The moment Jocelyn Renwick glimpses her family's stolen heirlooms in the possession of a wealthy earl, she demands their return. He dismissively insists they’ve been in his family for generations, and she privately vows to get them back at any cost. But the law-abiding Lord Carlyle foils her plans, and she reluctantly partners with him to solve the theft of her property. When they discover the earl is up to his ears in criminal acts, he threatens to link Daniel to his gang of thieves. Jocelyn must decide if justice for her family is worth risking a chance at love.

Meet the Author

Darcy Burke wrote her first book at age 11, a happily ever after about a swan addicted to magic and the female swan who loved him, with exceedingly poor illustrations. An RWA Golden Heart® Finalist, Darcy loves all things British (except tomatoes for breakfast, or any other time of day, actually) and happy ever afters.

A native Oregonian, Darcy lives on the edge of wine country with her devoted husband, their two great kids, and three cats. In her “spare” time Darcy is a serial volunteer enrolled in a 12-step program where one learns to say “no,” but she keeps having to start over. She’s also a fair-weather runner, and her happy places are Disneyland and Labor Day weekend at the Gorge. I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. For a short book it doesn't lack anything. I love that Carlyle was a constable and not just someone raised to be a lord, that made him very different from most books. I liked that it was pretty much love at first sight which is a nice change. I laughed at how Joselyn always said what she was thinking, and when she set her mind on something she did it even though she wasn't raised to act like that. Jagger has become a favorite of mine and I really want to know more about him. There is just something that makes you want to know him. I was expecting the ending, but not how it happened and that was a twist for me. Yes it was easy to figure out who was behind the robberies, but I wanted to know more about his reason for it.

Darcy Burke has done it again. She has created a fascinating story full of conspiracies, alluring characters and mysterious dealings. What I find compelling about the Secrets and Scandals series is that there is a fine line between what is right and what is wrong. Yes there is scheming and subterfuge, yet it is hard to identify the shady from the pure. The reason is because bad things are done by good people who feel they have no other choice. To Love a Thief falls into that category. In order to fully understand the circumstances the book has to be read in its entirety. This is one of those reads that lures you into revisiting the whole series. With bestsellers in contemporary and historical romance-Darcy Burke delivers quality driven, emotionally stimulating reads.

First, let me say I totally LOVE this cover! The vibrant blue just draws you in! Lovely! Miss Jocelyn Renwick is a bit reduced in circumstances, but not in essentials! She speaks her mind, sometimes to her own detriment. When she sees a woman at a ball wearing an item that was stolen from her home, she is incensed! She immediately goes to confront the person who is responsible and is rebuffed in the haughtiest manor. Thus begins the adventure! I enjoyed this story very much! Miss Renwick is a breath of fresh air! She is high spirited and not a shy miss. Although she is a bit of a wallflower, thinking she is beneath the company, she rallies quickly! The new Viscount is having a hard time adjusting to his new role, after being a constable for so many years and thinking he would stay a constable for many more years, it would be hard to reverse course! Now he meets Miss Renwick in a ballroom. And his life will never be the same! This was a very quick read, a short, hot novella perfect for a rainy afternoon! The writing was wonderful! Though some of the words used may not have been perfectly period correct, it did not detract from the story for me! I really enjoyed it! I received a copy of this title in exchange for my honest review

To Love a Thief is the 4th book in Darcy Burke's Secrets & Scandals Series. It is actually a novella, and the only tie in to the rest of the series is Jagger. He is a criminal, who has appeared or been mentioned briefly in all the previous books. Jagger's character is developed a little more and it is hinted that he is more than what he seems. But I digress, this story is about Lord Daniel Carlyle and Miss Jocelyn Renwick. Theirs is an intriguing story about stolen heirlooms. a theft ring, and an Earl who thinks he's above the law. Daniel was a constable before he inherited a Viscountcy. Helping Jocelyn determine who robbed her family calls to his sense of justice and also gives him an excuse to keep her close. I purchases this novella, long before I became a member of Darcy's Dream Team (where I received ARCs in exchange for honest reviews), but hadn't gotten a chance to read it until I started reviewing the series. Daniel and Jocelyn's story would have been better as a full length novel. A lot of characters were introduced with no development. The plot was fast paced, which made the story feel rushed, and then everything was resolved much too quickly and unsatisfactorily. I loved that Daniel was a Constable before he became a Viscount. The situation was unique but was not elaborated on. Jocelyn was at times witty and immature, which made her difficult to empathize with. Daniel and Jocelyn deserved more time for character development.

Dear Reader of this review I have found her books good. And so when I read the two reviews on this which were not good I was tempted not to read this one. But then I said to myself that would not be fair to the writer of other books I have read. Well I was happy I did buy it. So yes being a mature women I enjoyed it. Don:t go on my review read it and I can see what you think. Ms.D from Bronx, NY p.s. 285 pgs on my nook read it in a day.
