Even fans of bestseller Robinson's previous techno-thrillers featuring Adm. Arnold Morgan and his archenemy, SAS-major-turned-Hamas-general Ravi Rashood (Hunter Killer, etc.), may find this climax to their struggle a bit hard to swallow. After an attempted terrorist outrage at Boston's Logan Airport is foiled by chance, the captured bombers implicate Rashood in their scheme, leading the U.S. and Israel to redouble their efforts to eliminate him. While the Israelis manage to trace Rashood and his wife and partner-in-killing, Shakira, to a quiet block in Damascus, the hit on him fails when the professional squad somehow manages to detonate its explosive without verifying that the man entering the couple's house is, in fact, the quarry. Furious that Shakira was injured in the attack, Rashood devises a complicated plan to assassinate Morgan while the admiral is visiting London. Full of plot implausibilities, this entry makes a weak ending to this popular series. 5-city author tour. (June)

This final entry could have been an exciting and timely conclusion to Robinson's (Hunter Killer) series involving retired U.S. Adm. Arnold Morgan and his duel with British traitor and terrorist leader Ravi Rashood. But it is marred by the characters' inconsistent and irrational behavior and implausibilities in the plot; it is also quite predictable. Morgan is an irascible and stubborn presidential adviser on terrorism and national security who usually runs roughshod over others in his attempts to protect the United States. However, this time, Morgan is the target. After thwarting Rashood's plans to bomb airports and crash an airplane in Washington, DC, Morgan plots to have Rashood killed. After the attempt goes awry, the remainder of the story revolves around his own efforts to kill Morgan. Morgan is far from politically correct as he and his cohorts take on and take out the bad guys, regardless of the means. The duel between Morgan and Rashood, though it stuck around at least one book too many, is now at an end. For larger collections.

    To The Death, an exciting read.

    To The Death by Patrick Robinson is an extremely detailed near-future novel about a high commander of Hamas, Ravi Rashood, planning to assassinate Admiral Arnold Morgan, one of, if not the most trusted advisor of Paul Bedford, President of the United States. Upon a failed attempt to bomb Logan Airport, Ravi Rashood, and Ex-English General, soon realizes that Admiral Morgan, through intense interrogation of those terrorists directly responsible for what does happen at Logan airport, knows all too much about Rashood's part in this failed bombing attempt. Admiral Morgan uses the Israeli government to try to eliminate Ravi Rashood, but when the Israeli strike team fails to kill Ravi and his wife, Shakira, Ravi erases himself from the map and goes into hiding, planning his assassination of Admiral Morgan. As the novel goes on, President Bedford assigns a Navy Seal team to protect Arnold Morgan as he makes a trip through England, where Ravi has been planning to strike him down.
    This book is a very realistic and exciting read, in between sections. Although I did get frustrated with the massive expanse of detail that was put into this book, the chapters and sections were timed perfectly enough so that, when you started to get bored from all of the detail, you were immediately thrust into something new, something exciting. The action scenes in this book, although brief, are just long enough to throw the whole happening at you satisfyingly, and I find that to be a very positive thing about this book. Although I love action sequences, I find it more well written if a few powerful sentences capture the entire moment than have it drone on forever.
    The characters in this book, from the "good guys" (Admiral Morgan) to the "bad guys" (General Ravi Rashood) are all extremely likeable, which I find very intriguing. Everything is set up in a way that you can sympathize for both sides of the argument.
    In conclusion, although this book suffers a weak point in some places in being overly obvious and overly detailed, this book certainly succeeds in keeping the reader reading and caring about what happens to the characters, and that is why I would suggest this book to anyone that loves to read.

    An exciting read

    This is a very good book for rainy day reading. It is a thriller, fast-paced, and very readable. Apart from the occasional foul language, it is very entertaining. I would recommend it.

    A great wrapup!

    Robinson has found a way to finish up several stories using an excellent character. At the same time, he sets up future stories with other characters in his universe. Even if you have never read any of Robinson's books, this is an excellent read!

    Poor Showing

    I love Patrick Robinson's books. I really do. The story starts out well, and the characters are the steady and true characters as always. But there are too many mistakes, unbelievable anticipations by a very much beloved character of old, Rick Hunter, and an all too quick unravelling of a great villian.

    That being said, I will probably read his next book anyway. It has to be better. Sorry, Mr. Robinson. This one was a let down.

    I'm disappointed

    I am disappointed in Mr. Robinson's latest effort. Perhaps it is a good thing that he has brought the Adm. Morgan series to a close. With each conflict between Adm. Morgan and Ravi Rashood, the author seems to be more and more enamoured with Rashood. Further, he has made obvious mistakes in this latest novel. For example, he has F-16s chasing the hijacked aircraft heading to Washington, but he calls them Navy Aircraft. The geography of the flihgt is also off track. He also makes the Mossad agents attempting to kill Rashood seem like the Keystone Cops. No highly trained ops group would carry out the hit without verifying their target. In addition, they would have completely blown up the building to ensure its destruction, so Shakira Rashood would have been killed in the explosion. She would not have survived as she does in this episode.

    Finally, Rashood never makes a mistake as each novel has been written. Adm. Morgan just misses him each time. This theme has become very stale. As I said, it is good that Mr. Robinson has brought this to an end.

    Hopefully,with "Diamondhead" he will return to his previous greatness.
